Collegiate Novice at Harding (9/17)

Post by crobbins52 »

The Harding Academic Quiz Team is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a mirror of Collegiate Novice 2 at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas on September 17th, 2011. This tournament is a great opportunity for newer players to compete against one another on a very accessible, well-written set.

The tournament will be held in the Reynolds building, which is easy to find and has ample parking. Sometime closer to the tournament, I will send directions to teams.

Teams should plan on arriving around 930am so we can get started by 10am.

Tournament play will consist of a round robin format with necessary playoffs.

There will be no registration fees. It is free for your team(s) to play, so long as players meet the following criteria from head editor Andrew Hart:

1. All ACF eligibility rules apply, except when they contradict the rules below.
2. This is a tournament for introducing collegiate novices to quizbowl. Consequently, no high school teams or players are eligible.
3. Anyone (who does not break Rules 1 or 2) who has never played quizbowl before is automatically eligible. Other academic competition does not count as quizbowl for this rule.
4. Players meeting one or more of the following criteria must apply to the head editor for special permission to play:
i. If you have already completed your second year of college (calculated from time in college, not credits). Time in a post-secondary high school program does not count.
ii. If you were ever on a playoff or top-bracket team at NAQT HSNCT or PACE NSC.
iii. If you have ever scored at least 30 points per game at any college tournament.
iv. If you have ever won any college tournament.
5. Anyone who does not fall into any of the four categories listed in Rule 4 is automatically eligible to play.

Procedure for applying for special permission to play: 1) Email [Andrew Hart] at [email protected]; 2) state which of the Rule 4 points would render you otherwise ineligible; 3) list when and how you came to achieve any of the accomplishments that lead to your being otherwise ineligible; 4) state succinctly why you want to play.

To register, post here or email me, Caleb Robbins, at [email protected].
For any questions, please don't hesitate to email me. I'd be glad to answer any questions.

Congratulations to Hendrix A who beat Tulsa in a one game final to take first place.

Stats can be found here: http://results.scobo.net/SQBS.aspx?org= ... =standings

After five preliminary rounds, teams were split into two brackets of three. Preliminary games were carried over and teams played teams in their bracket plus one non-counting crossover match instead of a bye.
