Post by Bartleby »

The University of Western Ontario is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a mirror of Early Autumn Collegiate Novice on October 1st. This is a tournament aimed at players with less experience at quizbowl. I will be serving as Tournament Director. My e-mail address is bmcnama -AT- uwo -DOT- ca.

Location and Time
This tournament will be held at at the University Community Centre. I would ask that all teams arrive by 9:30 AM so that we can have a brief introductory meeting and commence the tournament by 10 AM. The tournament will conclude by 5 PM.

2) This is a tournament for introducing collegiate novices to quizbowl. Consequently, no high school teams or players are eligible.

3) Anyone (who does not break Rules 1 or 2) who has never played quizbowl before is automatically eligible. Other academic competition does not count as quizbowl for this rule.

4) Players meeting one or more of the following criteria must apply to the head editor for special permission to play:
i) If you have already completed your second year of college (calculated from time in college, not credits).
ii) If you were ever on a playoff team at NAQT HSNCT or PACE NSC.
iii) If you have ever scored at least 30 points per game at any college tournament.
iv) If you have ever won any college tournament.

5) Anyone who does not fall into any of the four categories listed in Rule 4 is automatically eligible to play.

We'll probably be bringing a team or two, along with a staffer.

Just an update: we will have to cap the field at twelve teams due to room booking restrictions. Sorry for any inconvenience. Also, when registering, please send me the names of anyone attending from your school- players or staff. I don't need to know team rosters, but our student life department wants to know anyone who will be in attendance.

Hey, just a reminder that this tournament is coming up in a week, and I've only received formal numbers from Buffalo so far.

It would be really great if more teams signed up for this, so that Buffalo could avoid driving in from the US just to play themselves!

Yo, McMaster will be sending at least 2 teams, no more than 3.

Thanks, I was starting to get a little worried that we would just be playing ourselves over and over again.

Logistics

Hey, so this tournament is happening on Saturday. As posted above, please try and arrive from 9-9:30. The tournament is being held in the University Community Centre, on the third floor. Please meet in the conference rooms. There will be signs. We should be underway by 10:00 at the latest, and hope to move smoothly. As regards parking, I would park in the Springett Lot if there are spaces available. It and the UCC are circled on the attached map. There are food options in the UCC (pizza, hamburgers, Tim Hortons etc).

Hey, so this happened, and I would say went reasonably well. The University of Buffalo A triumphed in a one-game final over McMaster B, after both teams finished round-robin play with an equal record. Statistics will be posted tomorrow.

EDIT: By tomorrow, I mean today. Salut: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... standings/
