ACF Regionals - Toronto

Post by Michael »

Global announcement: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... 66#p252203

ACF Regionals will be held at the University of Toronto on Saturday, February 23, at the Bahen Centre from 10 AM to 6 PM. Please register at this link.

New in 2013:
ACF has recently changed the eligibility for Div II. Now, any undergraduate who has never been to ACF Nationals can play in Division II.

Please note that ACF Regionals, like all ACF events, is using the new centralized payment system this year. Some updates will be made, but the general information on how this worked for ACF Fall are available in this thread.

Packet Submission:
Every team with at least one person on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament prior to September 1, 2011 is required to submit a packet in order to play in Regionals. Please note that, like last year, this requirement also applies to eligible high school teams. Further information can be found at the ACF Packet Submission Guidelines.

The submission schedule for this tournament is:
December 30, 2012: -$50
January 13, 2013: -$25 (-$50 for optional packets)
January 27, 2013: no penalty (-$25 for optional packets)
February 3, 2013: +$25
February 10, 2013: +$50
After that: +$100, and a guarantee you will be dropped from the field if you haven't negotiated an extension before then.

Payment Deadline (NEW): February 16, 2013 (your payment must be postmarked by this date).

Please submit your packet to [email protected]; the actual email with attached packet should include the phrase "[name of school + A/B/etc. if applicable) PACKET" in the subject line. In order to meet any particular deadline, your packet must be in by 11:59 pm PST on the stated day.

As alluded to above, extensions *may* be granted after the final February 10 deadline, but are at the discretion of the editors and will certainly not be granted if the request appears mysteriously at 11:58 pm the night of the deadline.

US cheques will not be accepted.

Packet Penalties:
Be sure to fully read the information contained in the Packet Guidelines. Any cases of incorrect formatting, plagiarism, or prohibited question types will result in hefty fees. The editors also reserve the right to send back any egregious cases to be fixed by the team in question, so be sure to do it right the first time.

Venue information:
Meet on the second floor of the Bahen Centre (go up the stairs just inside the main entrance). If you're coming by subway, Queen's Park station is the closest but St. George is also nearby. If you're driving, I recommend the Simcoe Hall parking lot (number 3 on this map: http://en.parkopedia.ca/parking/bahen_centre/), since the Bahen parking lot is underground and far from the main entrance.

Contacts:
Contact the main organizers at [email protected] for general questions.
Contact me at m . wainberg @ mail . utoronto . ca for venue-specific questions.

Yo, Mac'll be sending at least 2 teams to this. We're just finishing up a pack for our DI team (the other doesn't need to do one).

Waterloo will be sending one novice, DII team.

EDIT: with one laptop, one buzzer set, and one staffer.

Just wanted to thank Rico Catibog and U of T for hosting a successful and enjoyable tournament!

For voyeurs out there, Ottawa came first, followed by McMaster. UWaterloo won DII.

Cheers guys, and thanks again!
