Could we please play Geography Monstrosity 5 as a side event? I'm not sure whether the set is even available for mirrors or not (I can't seem to find any records of past mirrors), but I would be greatly interested in this.

Pleased to confirm that Geo Monstrosity 5 will be mirrored at this event. There will be no fee but a canned good donation to play would mark one out as a good person (or at least good for this reason).TedGan wrote:Could we please play Geography Monstrosity 5 as a side event? I can be a free agent or reader for the main tournament (whichever is a more pressing need) and I'd like to play the side event.

I certainly intend to be there, although I don't know whether an entire "Waterloo" team will be coming down (probably not).
My attendance is also contingent on flight schedules and such, so only consider me as "interested" now.

I'd like to play this with people I haven't played with before, and/or people who know things about science/history/fine arts. I can moderate for the geography side event.

Just a reminder that this is happening this weekend, Saturday, at 9 am SHARP. Dennis Beeby will be our valiant Tournament Director.
Games will be played in the Faculty of Social Sciences Building (same building as Delta Burke and Ottawa Hybrid) and potentially the University Centre. but I won't steal Dennis's thunder by describing more logistics than that.
I believe there are a couple of teams with open slots if there is still interest.
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Best,
Jordan

Please meet at Faculty of Social Sciences Building (FSS) 1006 on Saturday morning. Players, please arrive by 9:00 (#9amsharp), staff, aim for 8:45. Because of difficulties with room bookings over the summer, our rooms are split between the FSS building and the University Centre; fortunately, these are very close to each other. More details about this on Saturday morning.
Our field is as follows, barring any last-minute changes:
Carleton University
Patrick Liao and friends
Brendan McKendy and friends
Waterloo
McMaster
Colonel By HS
Earl of March HS
Ottawa House
Geography Monstrosity will be happening after the main tournament.
See you all Saturday morning at 9AM, in FSS 1006!

Congratulations to the team of Patrick Liao, Ben Smith, Aaron dos Remedios and Jennifer for going a perfect 10-0 to win our mirror of VCU Open. The teams of Huma Zafar and Brendan McKendy, and the Ottawa house team tied for second at 6-4.
Jay Misuk defeated myself in the final of Geography Monstrosity 5 held afterwards.
Full stats will be up later tonight for both tournaments. Thank you to everyone who came!
Also, to anyone from Earl of March on the off chance you read this, we have your buzzers as you forgot them!

Re: VCU Open Mirror, Ottawa (Canada), August 17, 2013
The stats for VCU Open are available here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/1595/
For Geography Monstrosity, we had eight teams. These were split into two pods of four, and each team played all the other teams in their pod. On the final (fourth) packet, we played off each team against the team that finished in the same position in the other pod as a crossover game. Stats are available here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/1596/
Again, thank you very much to everyone who came today, and congratulations to the winners!

I think you generated the stats in an old version of Mac SQBS (the wacky tables in the details page). I'm not at my main computer today to check if the latest version fixed that, but I'll know tomorrow.
Anyway, thanks to the organizers, writers, and participants for the tournaments.

Re: VCU Open Mirror, Ottawa (Canada), August 17, 2013
It appears to be the same problem described by various individuals here here (http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... =6&t=12556), so I have reuploaded the stats using the last release you linked in that thread (Oct. 2012 release). If there's still a problem with the stats, let me know.bsmith wrote:I think you generated the stats in an old version of Mac SQBS (the wacky tables in the details page).
