Qblitz and QANTA are excited to announce a new FREE tournament, QANTA League 0, to be held online at Qblitz from February 16 to 22 of 2019.

QANTA is a computer quizbowl-answering project that likes to test its mettle occasionally against human players. Last December, it did so at a live event at the University of Maryland. For those of you unable to make it to UMD, this is your chance to play those questions and test yourself against machine competition.

This is an open event, so players of all ages are eligible. To clarify, this is an individual, not team-based, competition.

The event will take place over 7 rounds, with 1 round per day. Each day, players will be placed in a pool, and the top performers in each pool will move up a step on the ladder. The highest climber at the end of the week is the winner.

The set we are using comes with 40-tossup rounds. The intended difficulty is high school nationals.

Due to support from the QANTA project, we are able to offer this event at a cost of $30. There will also be a QANTA League 1 at Qblitz later this spring, and there is a discount if you sign up for both. Due to increasingly generous support from the QANTA project, we are able to offer this event for FREE. There will also be a QANTA League 1 at Qblitz later this spring, also FREE.

To register, make sure you have an account at Qblitz, and once you're logged on, go the the Register tab.

We hope to see you there!

As the tournament is now free, will people who have already paid for this be reimbursed?

This event happened. I'll avoid announcing the winner, because you can watch the de facto championship game here.

In addition to providing some fun competition, we were able to generate 13,772 buzz points' worth of data for the QANTA project.

If you like to play quizbowl or move the scientific needle, please sign up for the QANTA League 1 event next month. You can register by logging into your Qblitz account.

Will this event also use questions used at the in-person QANTA League mirror, or will these questions be fresh for participants of that event as well?

Great question, thanks for asking! The questions will once again be provided by the QANTA organization, but they will be new.
