Matthew Lehmann, Alex Damisch, and Bryan Lu will be cutting the most British items from the set. To maintain consistency, we are planning on removing a set number of tossups and bonuses each round. The exact number will be at Matthew's discretion once he has the set in front of him, based on how many overly British questions are showing up per packet.

EDIT: updated to add Bryan and Alex

It looks like I'll be in town for this, so I'd love to run META on Friday if people would like that. I'm also looking for 1-2 teammates for Cambridge Open and Super Acronym, particularly someone I haven't played with before.

Andrew Hart and I are looking for MUSES teammates. You don't have to know things about classics and mythology, but that might be helpful.

Looks like on the map that David Kinley Hall is pretty close to the armory--do you recommend parking in the same lots as last year or is there somewhere closer?

David Kinley has its own, rather large, lot. The easiest way I've found to navigate people there is by directing them to Lorado Taft Drive (directions https://goo.gl/maps/ydb1YBkGdjN96xhZA)

Yeah, I'm thinking we'll likely stick to shootout format so people can join in as they arrive. If anyone plans to show up later and has a set they want set aside until they arrive, they can use the Friday Arrival form to let me know.

WHO: You, attendee of Side Event Weekend (who is 21 if you want to drink.)

WHAT: Tournament social event.

WHERE: At our house.

WHEN: We'll begin about an hour after the last Saturday event, maybe 8:00, and go until 1:00, when you quizbowl types will be asked to leave.

WHY: Snacks (but eat dinner before,) improved stereo, capacious back yard with probably bonfire and, this year, there's even furniture! Similar to last year, modest stock of drinks mainly characteristic of my white trash background, so if you want to drink and are of age, bring drinks. (If you want to drink and are not of age, don't.)

WHAT ELSE: E-mail with questions. You can also text, but my phone's at best semi-functional until probably Saturday (due to: I'm a clumsy buffoon.)
Due to exceptionally shitty week for me, Alison's done most of the work to get this ready, so please thank her any chance you get.

EDITS: Added video to further explain nature of event. Typo. Added edits section.

We are gonna finalize schedules soon so if you have not signed up but plan to play please do so ASAP. If your team does not have a name, you should make one ASAP as well, or we reserve the right to create the ugliest possible portmanteau of your names and use that as your team name.

As far as I'm aware, the building's air conditioning is working. In a worse case scenario, we can move back to the English building.

I placed the remaining free agents onto teams for MUSES, and the fields for Saturday's events are now final. Feel free to contact me if you have reason for wanting to switch teams.

We will be meeting at David Kinley Hall in Room 317 starting around 8:30am. I encourage people to show up early. The OP has been updated to reflect start times and schedules have been attached.

If you are interested in playing Eyes, we plan to play it across the weekend over breaks in play (morning / lunch). After MUSES, 64-Soundbyte will be available for those interested to hear.

Two things I'd like to remind people to be aware of this weekend:

1] There's a lot of quiz bowl people want to hear and we want to get through as much of it as we can. Please try your best to have fun, but to do so without slowing any given game down too far.

2] Other people affiliated with UIUC may be using these classrooms on Monday, so leave no trace. Keep track of your belongings, and dispose all finished food and drink items.

For MUSES, the final will take place tomorrow sometime, potentially during lunch or between SACRONYM and Unanswered Question. The team of Tejas, Rob, BIlly, and Matt will be playing a final with advantage over the team of Alex, John, Auroni, and Ryan.

On a related note, here are the stats for Cambridge Open and MUSES

If you are signed up to staff and would be up for running stats, please let me know - we have more than enough readers, so in the interest of keeping this running smoothly I'd love to have a dedicated stats person.

Many thanks to the folks at Illinois for running an excellent Side Event Weekend--for being so accommodating about packing in so many events, for keeping everything moving at a good pace, and for helping to staff all of the events.

Further results/stats from various events will trickle in over the course of today, I suspect. I'll start this off: a team of Kai Smith, Chris Ray, and Mike Sorice cleared the field at The Unanswered Question. I don't know how to post the stats from Neg5, but they exist in full form.

The results of MUSES remain up in the air. At the end of the round robin, the team of Rob Carson, Tejas Raje, Matt Lafer, and Billy Busse was one match ahead of my team, consisting of me, Auroni Gupta, Ryan Rosenberg, and Alex Damisch. We played the first game of the advantaged final yesterday and my team won. We will likely play the last game of that final sometime during CO weekend.

After playing the 10 main rounds of Eyes That Do Not See X, the scores were as follows:

Player: Score (15/10/-5)
Halle Friedman: 210 (9/10/5)
John Lawrence: 210 (10/8/4)
Matt Lafer: 110 (5/5/3)
Mike Etzkorn: 75 (3/6/6)
Iain Carpenter (played 9 rounds): 70 (4/6/10)
Chris Ray: 65 (5/8/18)
Yogesh Raut: 60 (3/3/3)
Chinmay Kansara: 45 (3/3/6)
Cyrus Zhou (played 9 rounds): 30 (0/3/0)
Mike Sorice (played 1 round): 25 (2/0/1)

Halle and I broke the tie by playing a head-to-head tiebreaker on the eight-tossup tiebreaker packet. She went (0/3/0) and I went (2/1/1), winning on the last tossup, making our final scores for the tournament:

John Lawrence: 245 (12/9/5)
Halle Friedman: 240 (9/13/5)

Thank you John for the write-up!

In addition, according to the Cambridge Open stats, the team 3 Four Men In A Boat (John Lawrence, Andrew Wang, Jakob Myers [4 games played, due to transportation] and Mike Sorice [2 games played, due to injury]) cleared the field, defeating Chandrew Smith (Chris Ray, Kai Smith, Clark Smith, and Andrew Stelzer) in the last game of the round-robin 305-300. There was actually a protested bonus part that may have swayed the results of the game, but I am unclear as to Bryan's resolution. In any case, I do not believe there was any desire to play off up to two additional games.

Uncertain why Mike is listed having played games as he was actually DNP - Gardening injury for the entire tournament

Oh, you are obviously right, I didn't notice that his stat line was purportedly 0/0/0. I think it's just a Neg5 error, easy to make if you don't uncheck the player's name at the beginning of the round.

IIRC, both protests (worth ten points each) were upheld, so the final result of 3 Men in a Boat clearing the field stands.

Prelim stats for Super ACRONYM are here. I still need to get all the playoff scoresheets into SQBS, but will have those up ASAP.

Also, by my count there were 11 players (nearly a fourth of the field!) who didn't pay for this. If that includes you, please do so ASAP - my Venmo is Erik-Nelson-32. If my records are correct, I believe I know who the 11 are, so I'll reach out to folks individually as needed.

EDIT: Can't double-post, but combined stats are up now, too.
