2020 ACF Regionals at Toronto (01/25/2020)

Post by cwasims »

I am pleased to announce that the Eastern Canadian site of 2020 ACF Regionals will be held at the University of Toronto on Saturday, January 25, 2020. The tournament will take place at Sidney Smith Hall, 100 St. George St., with team check-in beginning at 9:30am in a SS 2101 and gameplay beginning at or before 10:00am. I, Chris Sims, will be the tournament director. Please direct any questions about this site to me at [email protected].

Eligibility
In general, teams where players are all attending the same school and all taking at least one class for credit during the 2019-2020 school year are eligible to play 2020 ACF Regionals. ACF’s full eligibility rules are available here. Questions about eligibility should be directed to [email protected].

Rules
This tournament will follow ACF’s official gameplay rules.

Registration
Fill out the central 2020 ACF Regionals registration form with all relevant information. The form is here: https://forms.gle/2muU28fo5GxczdPA8. The field for each site can be found here. The field cap is 13 (which, given new room booking policies, is at this point unlikely to be increased), after which teams will be placed on a waitlist. Please register by January 20, 2020 at the latest.

Fees
All fees are given in Canadian dollars.
  • Base fee: $160
  • New to quizbowl discount: –$100
  • Shorthanded discount (1-2 players): –$75
  • Buzzers: –$10 per functional system
  • Staffers: –$15 per staffer with functional laptop
  • Travel: –$10 per 300 km traveled one-way
The new to quizbowl discount is intended for schools that did not send a team to any regular collegiate academic tournament (exclusively Novice tournaments do not count) since September 2018, and have no one on the team(s) claiming this discount who played those tournaments for another school.

Packet Discounts/Penalties
Any team with at least two people on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament (either as a college student or as a high school student) prior to September 1, 2018 is required to submit a half-packet. If they have not already requested them, teams will receive their distribution after registering. If you are unsure whether your team is required to submit a half-packet, please email ACF at [email protected].

The submission schedule is as follows (your submission must be sent to [email protected] by 11:59 PM PDT):
  • November 10, 2019: -$50
  • November 24, 2019: -$25
  • December 8, 2019: -$0
  • December 22, 2019: +$25
  • December 29, 2019: +$50
Packets submitted later than December 29 will receive an additional penalty of +$10 per day starting on December 30.

I hope to see many of you in Toronto on January 25th!

Thanks to all the players and staffers for coming to the tournament today! Final stats have been posted here.

Toronto A cleared the field to win the tournament and Waterloo won the undergraduate championship by having two more wins than Toronto D.
