2020 ACF Regionals at Yale (01/25/2020)

Post by kearnm7 »

I am pleased to announce that the Northeast site of 2020 ACF Regionals will be held at Yale University on Saturday, January 25, 2020.

The tournament will take place in either William Harkness Hall (WLH) or Linsly-Chittenden Hall (LC), with team check-in beginning at 8:00 A.M. The opening meeting will begin promptly at 8:45 A.M., with gameplay beginning at 9 A.M. I, Michael Kearney, will be the tournament director. Please direct any questions about this site to me at [email protected].

Eligibility
In general, teams where players are all attending the same school and all taking at least one class for credit during the 2019–2020 school year are eligible to play 2020 ACF Regionals. ACF’s full eligibility rules are available here. Questions about eligibility should be directed to [email protected].

Rules
This tournament will follow ACF’s official gameplay rules.

Registration
Fill out the central 2020 ACF Regionals registration form with all relevant information. The form is here: https://forms.gle/2muU28fo5GxczdPA8. The field for each site can be found here.

The field cap is provisionally 16, after which teams will be placed on a waitlist. Please register by January 20, 2020 at the latest.

Fees
  • Base fee: $150
  • New to quizbowl discount: –$100
  • Shorthanded discount (1–2 players): –$75
  • Buzzers: –$10 per functional system
  • Staffers: –$15 per staffer with functional laptop
  • Travel: –$10 per 200 miles traveled one-way
The new to quizbowl discount is intended for schools that did not send a team to any regular collegiate academic tournament (exclusively Novice tournaments do not count) since September 2018, and have no one on the team(s) claiming this discount who played those tournaments for another school.

Packet Discounts/Penalties
Any team with at least two people on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament (either as a college student or as a high school student) prior to September 1, 2018 is required to submit a half-packet. If they have not already requested them, teams will receive their distribution after registering. If you are unsure whether your team is required to submit a half-packet, please email ACF at [email protected].

The submission schedule is as follows (your submission must be sent to [email protected] by 11:59 PM PDT):
  • November 10, 2019: –$50
  • November 24, 2019: –$25
  • December 8, 2019: –$0
  • December 22, 2019: +$25
  • December 29, 2019: +$50
Packets submitted later than December 29 will receive an additional penalty of +$10 per day starting on December 30.

The field above is up to date. As it stands, we will play a 11-team round robin, with finals as necessary. More information will follow tomorrow or Wednesday in a logistics email.

A very late drop from Amherst has necessitated changes to the schedule. I'll get those up ASAP.

Here's a revised schedule for 10 teams, keeping in mind the late drop and the two non-blind packets. Some teams in Round 8 will play on Brown's packet (Brown will not, of course) and some teams will play on Harvard B's packet (Harvard B will not, of course).

Full stats are available in the post above!

Harvard B cleared the field with an 11-1 record, while Harvard A (9-3) eked out second place over Harvard C (9-3) on PPG. Yale A won the UG and DII titles, while Brown came second in both.

Thanks to everyone for coming to New Haven today, and safe travels back!
