2020 LIT @ Duke (POSTPONED INDEFINITELY)

Post by Heiliger Dankgesang »

Duke Quiz Bowl is excited to announce the Carolina / Lower Mid-Atlantic mirror of Longhorn Invitational Tournament (LIT) 2020, a medium-difficulty set written by members of the UT Austin quiz bowl team! Further details about the set can be found here.

I, Jacob Egol, will be directing this tournament. Please direct any questions about this tournament to me at [email protected] or post them in this thread.

Time and Place:
This tournament will be held on ________ in Classroom Building on Duke’s East Campus (1356 Campus Drive, Durham, NC 27708), with team check-in beginning at 8:30 am and Round 1 beginning as close to 9:15 am as possible.

Rules:
We will use ACF gameplay rules, with the inclusion of powermarks.

Eligibility:
Any team which complies with ACF's eligibility rules may play LIT. Closed high school teams may also register for this LIT mirror.

Registration:
To register for this tournament, please fill out this Google Form. Only responses received through the Google Form will constitute official registration.

Fees and Payment:
Base fee: $120 per team
Buzzer discount: –$10 per each functional buzzer system which supports at least 8 players
Staffer discount: –$15 per EXPERIENCED staffer; staffers must be able to read a round in 35-40 minutes and must bring functional laptops.
Distance discount: –$10 per 200 miles traveled one-way (from your school to Duke, according to Google Maps)
Minimum fee per team: $50

We will accept payment in cash, or as a check payable to “James Zhou”. Teams should bring their payment on the morning of the tournament and pay when they check-in. Any questions or concerns regarding payment should be sent to me privately.

Field Size:
This tournament's field will have a soft cap of 18 teams, after which a waitlist will form. If we have sufficient staff, then the field will expand to a final cap of 24 teams, which will not increase any further.

Parking Information:
Classroom Building is located right off of the East Campus bus loop, so dropping team members off at the bus loop and then parking should be very straightforward. Limited parking is available in lots behind Classroom Building and at the Smith Warehouse visitor lot, and street parking is also available on Broad Street, Perry Street, Iredell Street, and 9th Street. Please note that the visitor lots on West Campus are quite far from East Campus and will not be the best option.

Food Options:
Breakfast will not be provided. For lunch, there are several restaurants within walking/driving distance on 9th Street and (to a lesser extent) along Hillsborough Road or in downtown Durham. Dining options on West Campus are also available but are not ideal as finding parking may be difficult. We will be happy to provide recommendations on the day of the tournament.

With just less than two weeks left until the tournament, we still have considerable room left in the field for more teams to register! We hope to see you in Durham very soon!

In light of the rapid spread of coronavirus and following recent announcements from Duke administration regarding class/event cancellations, we are unfortunately and regretfully postponing our LIT mirror indefinitely. We apologize to those who have already signed up, and we hope to see you in Durham in the future.
