Closed 'SHOP: A second Closed WORKSHOP online mirror (5/2)

Post by A Dim-Witted Saboteur »

Hi everyone!

Given the cancellation of several of our in-person mirrors, we on the WORKSHOP team are announcing a second round of online mirrors, one open and one closed. The following announcement covers the closed mirror, which will happen on May 2, 2020. As a closed mirror, this tournament will be open to any high school or college team of people who all attend the same school as of the 2019-20 quizbowl season. The field is capped at 12 teams.

This tournament is collegiate regionals difficulty, a 3 on Ophir's difficulty scale. More information here.

Registration:
In order to register, please fill out a row on the CLOSED subsheet of this spreadsheet. Please also email [email protected] with a functioning venmo address that we can charge for payment.

Payment:
The mirror fee for this tournament will be $70 per team. Please direct payment to Alex Damisch over Venmo (preferred) @damischa or, if you can't, PayPal [email protected]

Staffing:
If you want to staff, please indicate that on the spreadsheet linked above. Staff who are playing the open mirror will receive incentives in mirror fee discounts according to a structure that will be detailed in the announcement for that tournament. Staff who are not will receive $30 for the day.

Logistics:
This tournament will begin at 10 AM Eastern Time (7 AM Pacific) with or without you. Please be on the server at 9:30; a link for the server will be sent to the contact email provided the night before.

We hope to see you there!

The field for this mirror is now full, but we intend to expand it to 14 or 16 if we can find another couple staffers. If you're available to read, please sign up!

We have expanded the field to 14 now.

EDIT: as our spreadsheet suggests, the field cap is now 16.

As with Open 'SHOP, I intend to close the field and make a server and schedule after this Thursday at 6:00 PM eastern. Any team withdrawing their registration after that time will be assessed a fee. With two more registrations we will reach our field cap anyway, so if you're considering playing, sign up quickly! If, at 6 PM tomorrow, we have an odd number of teams, I will leave registration open for 24 more hours to see if we can get another for an even schedule.

This tournament ran pretty successfully; Harvard A and Harvard B mutually agreed to let the results of the playoffs stand, so congratulations to Harvard A on their victory! Stats are here https://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/6 ... /combined/. I'd like to thank Arjun Nageswaran, Sadie Britton, Olivia Murton, Katherine Lei, and Luc Wetherbee for helping out both this week and last, and Daniel Hothem, Caroline Mao, Eric Douglass, Eric Lu, Michael Borecki, Nick Jensen, Stephen Eltinge, Karthik Prasad, and Ned Tagtmeier for helping out this week!
