Scattergories 4 online (8/22/20)

Post by women, fire and dangerous things »

This is the official announcement for the main mirror of Scattergories 4 (announcement here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=23552&p=364280&hili ... es#p364280), which will be held on Discord on Saturday, August 22 starting at 11 AM EDT. Camera will be required (but if you have a good reason why you can't use one, please contact me). The cost will be 10 USD per player.

You can use this spreadsheet to form teams of up to four players: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing. To officially register your team, send me an email at [email protected]; there's a tentative field cap of 8 teams, first come first served, which will be expanded as staff availability allows. Speaking of which: if you're willing to staff, please sign up on the spreadsheet as well - staffers will be paid 20 USD.

Details about payment and format to come later!

There are now 8 teams officially signed up, but the field cap has been expanded to 14.

A few updates:

1. This tournament will have a code of conduct to which all players and moderators will be required to agree in order to participate; it will be sent out with the logistics email. Those who violate the code of conduct will be given a warning and/or removed from the tournament, as appropriate.

2. We've now hit the field cap of 14. I'd love to be able to expand the field to 16 teams or more, so if you're willing to staff, I'll be very grateful!

3. If you want to play this set but won't be able to (because of the date, not because of the field cap), please get in touch with me - I'd like to gauge whether it will be worth having a second mirror.

Thanks!

I'd like to play if any teams still need a fourth player.

If the field doesn't expand, I would be interested in a second mirror of course as well.

Same as Mike Cheyne, I'd be happy to play for a team that isn't full

The field has now been expanded to 18 teams - thanks to those who have volunteered to staff!

20 will be the final field cap - with 20 teams, we can do a round robin with two brackets of 10, followed by a one-game crossover final. The tournament's in a little under two weeks, so it would be helpful if free agents could assemble themelves into teams soon so I can make sure we do indeed get to 20 teams. Thanks!

A logistics email has been sent out to a representative from each of the teams. The field is now full at 20 teams, but there still are a small number of open slots for players.

Happy to join a team if any one wants to fill up their roster. As noted, mainly contributing in sporadic lit.

One of our staffers had to drop last-minute; if anyone else is willing to help staff, please let me know!

Final stats are at https://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/6546/ (thanks to Joe Su for running stats!). Team "Mott scattergories" (John Lawrence, Mike Bentley, Rob Carson, and Halle Friedman) won in overtime in a tight final against team "Mie scattergories" (Shan Kothari, Alston Boyd, Tim Morrison, and Matthew Lehmann).

Thanks to JinAh and Joey for their contributions to the set, and thanks to the moderators for making the tournament possible!
