December 2020: NeurIPS Human vs. Computer Online Invitational

Post by ezubaric »

A few years ago, we hosted a competition between human and machine teams, and we're looking to do it again this year (with support from Google). This Medium posts explains the competition a little bit more than the official announcement (which is linked):

The part I'm working on is trying to find a strong human team to take on the computer teams. You'll need to be close to some Google office for the actual competition in December (we have a full list of possible locations in the form).

If you're interested in competing, please fill out this form, and we'll be in touch with invitations!

To be clear, this will be a competition on questions like the "Natural Question Train Set Examples" at https://ai.google.com/research/NaturalQ ... atabrowser and not quizbowl questions per se? i.e. you'll be asking questions like "what is the story behind 5 nights at freddy's?"

This will be questions in the style of Natural Questions, indeed, rather than normal quiz bowl questions. But because the quality of questions is non-uniform, we'll make sure that the questions we select are interesting and of the sort that quiz bowlers would appreciate (e.g., more like interesting bonus parts).
