Penn Bowl 2021 Playtest (8/28)

Post by jsugrue »

I am pleased to announce the online playtest mirror of Penn Bowl 2021 to be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 on Discord.

I (Jack Sugrue) will be serving as tournament director for this online playtest mirror.

Eligibility:

This tournament is open to all “open” players (that is, players not currently affiliated with any academic institution). We encourage those affiliated with a school or other institution to play their regional online mirrors, announcements for which are forthcoming. If you do not fit either of those categories but would like to play this mirror, please contact [email protected] explaining your situation.

Registration:

To register, please email [email protected]
A team formation spreadsheet is available here. Note that you are still required to email me to officially register.
Payment:

The fee for this tournament will be $80 per team. We can accept, and would prefer, payment through Paypal or Venmo.

Field Cap:

The field cap will be set at 10 teams.

Logistics:

This tournament will begin at 10 AM EST on August 28, 2021. An email with further logistics, along with the Discord server, will be sent out a week beforehand.

Code of Conduct:

This tournament will have a Code of Conduct that will be sent out to all players and staffers prior to the tournament. All participants must agree to abide by this Code of Conduct in order to participate in this tournament.

Thank you all for your interest, and we hope you enjoy Penn Bowl 2021!

Just a reminder that sign-ups are still open for this playtest! We’re ideally looking for a few more teams/players.

Update: We currently have enough teams/free agents to run 6 full teams of 4. We are currently capping registration; any additional players/teams will be added to a waitlist until we can expand the field to 8 teams.

Free agents not yet a part of a team can join a team (email the listed contact!) until Saturday, August 21, at which point remaining free agents will be assigned to open slots. Additionally, as a reminder, full teams should send an email to [email protected] to officially register for the tournament. More info will be forthcoming to teams as the tournament draws closer.

I signed up as a free agent today (sorry, past the deadline). If there's still room on any team, I wouldn't mind playing and being assigned to any team. If there's not, no big deal.

Thanks to everyone for attending this tournament, and a huge thanks to Taylor, Jonathen, Aseem, Michael, Emmett, Sam, and Jack for running the tournament!

All-Japan Karaoke Industrialists Association (Mike Bentley, Rahul Keyal, Andrew Wang, Nick Jensen) beat Past Penn Bowl Editors (Will Alston, Eric Mukherjee, Mike Cheyne, Jacob O'Rourke) in the second game of an advantaged final.

Players and staff are encouraged to join the 2021 Penn Bowl discussion forum (it can be found under the Usergroups tab on your user control panel).
