NAQT Collegiate Novice at RIT (9/25)

Post by Cosmas's Tabernacular Earth »

I am pleased to announce a tournament taking place using NAQT’s collegiate novice set (CNS-204C) on September 25, 2021 at RIT.

Fees
Base fee: $75 per team
Buzzer discount: -$10 per working buzzer set
Staff discount: -$10 per capable staffer; any staffer wishing to moderate must have an NAQT account to access the paсks
New school discount: -$15 if your school has not played a college tournament between September 1, 2019 and September 1, 2021
Minimum fee: $35 per team

Eligibility
This tournament is intended for newer college players. As such, we will require players who meet any of the below criteria to be approved by the TD before being permitted to play:
  • Has scored 35 PPG or more in either major high school national (HSNCT or NSC)
  • Was on a team that finished in the top playoff bracket (1st-24th) at NSC or finished t-49th or better at HSNCT
  • Has scored 25 PPG or more in any tournament run on a college set
  • Has played in or qualified for a college national (ICT or ACF Nationals)
That said, please don’t be afraid to ask for an exception if you have a player who meets one of these criteria but you still feel is a novice.

It should be noted that NAQT’s collegiate novice set (CNS-204C) has overlap with one of NAQT’s high school sets (IS-204). For that reason, high school players and coaches may not attend this tournament in any capacity.

Logistics
Teams should plan to arrive at RIT around 9:00 am, with the expectation that we will start tossup 1 at 9:30 am. Our target length is ten rounds of quizbowl, though the exact number will depend on field size. There will be a scheduled break for lunch, however lunch will not be provided.

The tournament will occur in the Eastman building. Parking on campus is free on weekends, and D and E lots are both close to the Eastman building. A complete logistics email will be sent to teams ahead of the tournament.

Covid Protocols
All participants in this event must provide either proof of vaccination or a negative covid test (either a PCR test from within 72 hours of the event start or an antigen test from the day of the event). All participants must follow RIT's current covid protocols which can be found at https://www.rit.edu/ready/rit-safety-plan. As it currently stands, masks will be required in all indoor areas regardless of vaccination status. Information on the relevant covid protocols will be sent to the teams in the logistics email.

Registration
Registration will be done through NAQT's system at https://www.naqt.com/go/register/12581. The deadline for registration is Wednesday, September 22.

Field
School (Teams/Buzzers/Staffers)
RIT (1/1/as needed)
Cornell (1/0/1)
Hobart & William Smith (1/1/0)
SCCC (1/1/0)

If you have any questions or wish to request exemptions to the eligibility criteria, feel free to email me at [email protected] or send me a PM.

This tournament was mistakenly switched to being listed as online on NAQT's website today. The tournament will take place in person. We are extending registration by one day to deal with any issues this may have caused. Teams should expect a logistics email tomorrow night.

We have delayed the tournament start time by half an hour due to the fact that we will only have 4 teams and thus a 9 round + finals schedule. The schedule (and other useful information) can be found here

To the surprise of basically no one, Cornell went 9-0 and cleared the field. Full stats can be found here. Hopefully everyone had fun and the Upstate NY circuit continues to grow!
