Which Online School are you Going to Next Year? (Collegiate 2020)

Elaborate on the merits of specific tournaments or have general theoretical discussion here.

Which Online School are you Going to Next Year? (Collegiate 2020)

Post by Sylvia Pankhurst »

To quote the previous years' threads:
it's that time of year again where people start to hear back from transfer applications, grad school apps, job offers, landlords, etc. and make plans to go places. Here is a thread in which current college players or members of the college quizbowl community can post where they'll be next. Please post only if you have something definite to share, though that includes things besides "I am going to x and such school for [Degree]"; more general notes on moving to a new metropolitan area as a non-student/non-player/employee interested in continuing to staff or do outreach, etc.

To start us off, I'll be heading to Chicago Div to start a 2 year MA in Religious Studies. Last week I thought I was retired, this week I'm less sure, but I'll definitely be around to staff.

I will fulfill my lifelong dreams of becoming an eternal grad student by starting a (probably JD/)PhD in economics at Northwestern in the fall. I definitely plan on playing as time permits, and I'm looking forward to meeting the team and the Midwest circuit generally.

Congrats and welcome!

As for me, the situation is complicated and if you care about the details feel free to get in touch, but long story short is I'm enrolled and eligible next year at Chicago, and probably will still be here after that, too, barring societal collapse and/or continued bad luck.

After I finish my PhD in (fingers crossed) July, I'll be moving to Montreal to take up a postdoc at UdeM, based at the Montreal Botanical Garden. I can staff tournaments in Montreal, if there are any, or perhaps as far as Ottawa. But I will never call packets "[the thing Canadians call them]."

(staff edit: helped make Shan's point clear lol)

Welcome!

Right now, there aren't any tournaments hosted in Montréal because McGill would have to pay some insane amount of money (as of a few years ago it was close to $1,000) to book rooms, and they're the only club in the city. Closest tournaments are in Ottawa (two hours) or Kingston (three).

As indicated below (I'm still not sure how I want to format this new iteration of my signature) I will be doing a one-year masters at Cambridge before most likely returning to Toronto for law school, thereby getting a change of scenery that will not require me to stop saying "package". I plan to continue playing and to audition for University Challenge.

I'll be starting a two-year master's program at Yale Divinity School in the fall. Not sure how often I'll play, although the events of this semester have made it more likely I'll stay active. In any case, I'll definitely be around to staff tournaments.
