Studying ACF packets

Post by 100% Clean Comedian Dan Nainan » Sun Jun 05, 2016 9:40 pm

For the purpose of trying to get a grasp of the canon in college quizbowl, how far back are ACF Fall and Regionals packets useful for studying? I want to be sure to not go back too far. Also, I apologize in advance if this would've been more appropriate in the "New Teams" forum.

2007-ish, I'd say; some topics and writing styles have gone in and out of vogue since then, but the basics of good quizbowl as it exists now were existent in Fall and Regionals from about that point forward.

Fall 2008 or so is when it approached modern quality, though it got easier later. Regionals got good around 2008 (2007 was backbreakingly hard), but really approached modern quality around 2012. Nationals is useful after around 2010 or so. I would start with this year and work back.

Thanks to both of you! Though it will admittedly be awhile before I read any Nationals packets, I'll be sure to keep all of this advice in mind when the time comes.
