*Results* DAR Invitational January 24th 2009 Grant AL

Post by Matthew D »

The Kate Duncan Smith DAR High School Quizbowl Team would like to invite you to the first annual "DAR Invitational" to be held on January 24, 2009. We will begin registration at 8:00 a.m. at DAR High School and begin play at 9 am. But, if all teams are present before 9 a.m., we will begin play after a brief coaches meeting. The cost is sixty ($60) dollars per team with a discount of 5 dollars for working buzzers, 5 dollars if you travel over 200 miles as verified by either MSN Live Search or MapQuest, 5 dollar discount for any team after the first team from a given school with the minimum fee being 45 dollars if you have all three discounts.
The DAR Invitational will be a NAQT (National Academic Quiz Tournaments) and PACE (Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence) national qualification event using NAQT IS-83 set of questions. All rules for official NAQT tournaments will be followed except each individual match will not be timed. Full rules can be found at http://www.naqt.com/rules.html . There will be trophies given for the top three teams in each division and medals for the top 3 individual high scores for the tournament in both the varsity and junior varsity divisions. We will only have a junior varsity division if we have more than 6 teams in the division.
Playoff qualification will be given out at the coach's meeting prior to the start of the playoff but junior varsity teams will be included in the playoff to allow them to qualify for the play at both the NAQT National Championship and PACE National Scholastics Championship tournaments later this year in Chicago and Washington respectively. If you have question, requests, or need directions, please call me or email me.
Lunch will be provided on site. We will be serving BBQ plates or chicken fingers plates but all plates need to be ordered ahead of time due to the lack of fast food restaurant choices in Grant. We are working on the cost and will get this information out to you as quickly as possible. In addition, we will have an assortment of drinks, chips, and candy for sale during the tournament and during lunch.

Thank you and hope to see you at DAR on the 24th of January,
Matt Dennis

Matt--

You can count on HHS for at least three teams, one of which would be JV. I might actually have enough for two JV, but we'll see.

I thought CC sectionals was the same day as ACF regionals. This tournament may conflict with the Penn Bowl, depending onhow close a mirror is or how far you wish to travel.

No, CCCT is the Regionals weekend. CCSCT is Penn Bowl weekend.

Which is Jan 24th. I knew I would be losing my CC help but I am backed into a corner date wise because of State scheduled tournaments that bracket me on each side

I just checked NAQTs website and it said our Sectionals are on the 23rd. I don't know if this is true or not, but if it is I'd be happy to come help at the tournament. I'll check with Mr. Scott tomorrow.

Catholic (1)
ASFA (2)
Russellville (2)

Matt--
I am a coach of a newly created team in northern Alabama and we got together around early this month...
I was referred to this website by another coach and i saw that your tournement is soon. I was wondering if you had an opening still available. We have one team of four with some prior expirence with NAQT questions so I would like to know if we can still come.

Thanks: ACDC Coach

If this is still the case, none of your community college help will be able to. IS-81 is what they're using for CCSCT.

Actually Andy they are playing theirs on the Friday right before.. so we are safe.. apparently I got lucky because I thought at first I wouldn't get to have any of the CC help because it was scheduled the same day and then I got a last minute switch on the questions but it worked out, I believe

Thanks Mr. Dennis for a well run and well organized tournament.

I think Hoover showed how beastly they are at NAQT questions, and how bad we are at NAQT pet categories.
