We're going to come to this, but we won't be able to submit a packet. I can write a partial packet, but that's probably it. Should I do this, or would it be a waste of time?
edit: Also, what is a good set that is similar to this? We'll wanna practice on comparable difficulty in the weeks before.

If the tournament is similar to last year's Terrapin it will be pushing towards the upper end of the "normal difficulty" range; Terrapin 2008, Cardinal Classic 2008, or ACF Regionals 2007 are similar.JackGlerum wrote:edit: Also, what is a good set that is similar to this? High school teams by definition don't have to submit packets, but you can feel free to do so for a discount. We're going to come to this, but we won't be able to submit a packet. I can write a partial packet, but that's probably it. Should I do this, or would it be a waste of time?

I definitely can attend this mirror. This would be a great last-minute warm-up for NAQT SCT a week later. Greg Peterson, would you be interested in being one of my teammates? If so, could we split packet writing?

Illinois is definitely going to attend with at least one, and maybe two, teams. If the second team materializes, it will probably be made up entirely of freshmen.

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: TIT XXIII Mirror at Northwestern (1/31/09)
Cross-posted from original TIT thread:
Hey, I just wanted to remind everyone that tomorrow night is the +$25 deadline, so keep those packets coming in (thanks to Harvard, VCU, and half a thanks to team Josenthal for submissions).
For the record, I am expecting packets from the following teams based on registrations here and at Northwestern:
Brown
Penn
CWRU
Illinois
Chicago (could I get an update on the number of packets, if possible?)
Michigan
Rom
If you are listed here and are no longer planning on writing a packet, please let me know immediately. We are a little short on packets right now, so if anyone would be interested in freelancing a packet/half packet/some questions, we'd certainly appreciate it and owe you a favor.

Just a friendly reminder to teams to email me (rebecca HYPHEN fischer AT northwestern DOT edu) with the number of teams, buzzer systems, and moderators you are bringing to officially register for the TIT mirror. A number of teams have expressed interest here and/or to Chris without sending me an email, which would be really helpful for me. I will post a field update soon, when I hopefully have heard from more teams.

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: TIT XXIII Mirror at Northwestern (1/31/09)
The promised late-minute details:
Check-in and a team meeting will start at 8:30am in the Big Ten Room (Room 104) of the Norris University Center, with rounds starting at 9am.
Most parking lots on campus are free on weekends, but the best places to park are probably along the lake on the south side of campus. These are lots 208, 211, 214, and 215 on this map: http://www.northwestern.edu/up/parking/maps.html. Directions can be found at: http://www.northwestern.edu/visiting/di ... index.html; let me know if you need further directions.
With 11 teams, we will probably be playing a full round robin with a bye, followed by a couple of final rounds if needed.

Actually, I think GDS had results up for their tournament that night.

Was a final played and just not entered, or were there not enough packets?

It's admirable to accomplish that, but if someone chooses to wait until, say, tomorrow, that's okay too.Anti-Climacus wrote:Actually, I think GDS had results up for their tournament that night.

Chicago A beat Illinois in the first game of the final, thereby winning the tournament. I don't remember the score, but it was close until the last two questions or so.dtaylor4 wrote:Was a final played and just not entered, or were there not enough packets?

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: TIT XXIII Mirror at Northwestern (1/31/09)
I had a blast yesterday; the tournament ran on time for the most part, had good moderators, and kept efficient stats. I thought Northwestern did a great job and I hope they host more solid events, because having good quizbowl right in Evanston is a god-send.
Also, this was one of the best sets I've played this year. Without giving specifics and not having seen the questions, it seemed transparency and cliffs were kept to a minimum, a testament to the editors. We only had 11 or so ppb, but we were not falling over in our chairs upon hearing the hard part. All and all, a fine job by Maryland.

Thanks to all of the teams who came, we really enjoyed hosting this. Especially thanks to Tom Egan and Matt Laird for staffing.
As was already pointed out, the stats are available on our website. I just found the scoresheet from the final game, so that should be up sometime relatively soon as well.
