COMICS: Midwest Edition, March 22nd

Post by Cheynem »

This is tentatively supposed to take place after Fake TRASHionals on March 22nd, the day after Fake ICT at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. I am setting up this thread to gauge how much interest there is in this, so I can at least have a rough idea of what format should be run (doubles, singles, everyone in a room). I'm guessing that some of the regular TRASH people who show up for trash related events but don't visit these boards might want to play too.

Note to people who played this at Terrapin: There are three blind-to-all packets. This event will be free. If people paid for this at Terrapin, I haven't seen anything.

Trygve Meade and I will be teaming up for this. I'm hoping he won't flee this time, as it's on his own campus.

If you need someone to read, I can. I am eagerly awaiting the bland 90s mainstream rock tournament, my chance to shine.

Even though fake Trashionals is no more, I plan on still running this. If I get a chance over break, I might bang out a few more packets, maybe a few toss-up only rounds.

I want to play this if I could, and I can read if necessary, or work security or something as well.

After a little cross-checking threads, it seems like the current plan is to meet roughly around 9 or so Sunday, play COMICS if there is enough interest, and then those interested will play a little hoops afterwards. Thus, I think the general idea will be to get through the set promptly enough so that basketball can be squeezed in in a general timespan. I might write like some goofy speedchecks or mini-trash packets or some such fooferah to give those who are not playing hoops something to do after the termination of this set.

For those unsure if they would like the set, I would like to stress that this is a cross-media, fairly easy level set. In other words, this set is designed for amateur comics players, and one should not expect to see toss-ups on individual members of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard.

I've noted interest from roughly 5 to 6 people. Assuming that those people will find teammates/play solo/combine/drop out, I'm hoping we can get a nice even number of teams, which would be great with six packets (either 4 or 6). If more people wish to play, in the interest of simplicity, I might just expand the teams from doubles to triples or whatever. If it's 4 teams, then it will just be a double round robin. If it's 6 teams, then it will be a single round robin with a finals between the top two teams.

I don't know much of anything, but would be glad to play with you or anyone else. Of course, I'm also down to staff if that's what's needed.

There has been a lot of offers to staff, so I think we're good in that regard. I mean, at most we're going to probably need just three readers, one of whom is myself.

I did not get a chance to really confirm times with Donald today. I had heard the time 9:00 floated around at presumably the same location. We will see what happens tomorrow I guess.

Donald isn't in any condition to confirm this, but I sure am. Tomorrow, 9 AM, room 333 Armory.

When will the set be posted? I don't plan on playing at any other sites it might be read at.

I'm going to hold off on actually posting the set until the RC Cola people do their thing, but if anyone wants it, e-mail me at cheyne AT wmis DOT net.

Matt Lafer pretty much sums it up as is. The red-haired dude who knew a lot about comics was named Jon. I somehow seem to have lost a few of my admittedly half-ass attempts at collecting stats. Suffice it to say that the Jon guy easily was the high scorer. If I find 'em, I'll post them.

I think some of the people who didn't get to hear all the packets were going to play the later packets at ICT.

I was going to try to do this on Saturday night after GUERILLA if there was interest, but I'm willing to just not look at the packets rather than have them withheld from circulation on my account. I suggest anyone else interested in this ad-hoc tournament do the same.
