MSU March Madness Invitational (3/28)

Post by Broad-tailed Grassbird »

Michigan State University’s Academic Competitions Club is proud to announce its annual March Madness invitational scheduled for March 28th, 2009. This tournament will be using NAQT invitational set IS-83. The field size has yet to be determined, but we will probably run a divisional round robin followed by a single-elimination championship bracket (in true March Madness style) and consolation brackets. The consolation brackets will ensure more games for all teams that do not make the championship bracket, or get eliminated from the championship bracket.

Fees:
First Team: $65
All subsequent teams $50
Working Buzzer set: -10 (2 max per team)
Distance Discount (only for schools 100+ miles away): 12.5 cents per mile (one-way as per Google Maps, from the zip code 48825)
Minimum per team: $25

Please make checks payable to MSU ACC and please pay upon arrival.

Also, the NCAA basketball tournament will be in the Elite 8 round on the day of this tournament, and both games will be in prime time, so you will not miss them if you attend this tournament.

Thanks,

Nalin Lalwani

I don't have your registration yet, although your coach mentioned that you guys wanted to come before any details were announced.

So, does this tournament still have first places even though no playoffs? I just never heard of swiss pairing before.

It's actually going to be a combo of swiss pairing and round robin.

A championship match will be played if necessary.

Thanks to all 30 teams that showed up yesterday.

In the playoff round, DCDS A and Novi B each won their brackets finishing 3-0. Okemos and Dewitt A each finished 2-1 being runners-up in their respective brackets. DCDS A defeated Novi B in a final to take first place, and Okemos defeated Dewitt A to take third place. Congratulations to all the teams.

Individual stats will be posted online this week, and we will mail out individual prizes (or just deliver them, if it was for the Lansing area teams).

I think enough time has passed for it to be okay to complain about the lack of stats.

Where are the stats?

Nalin, I know you have probably been busy the last couple of weeks, but could you at least give a heads up on how things are going right now regarding stats, just to show that you haven't forgotten about this at all.

Nalin,

If you could email me when they are done, I would really appreciate it. We need the stats to do a gold/platinum certification review.

Thanks!

Could you please give an approximate time when you will probably be posting this online? So that we don't have to keep checking when this will be up.

Nalin,

Thanks for enduring the impatience that I may have shown on this forum. But furthemore, thanks for posting the stats to this well-run tournament.

I know it doesn't really matter, but there were some errors in stats, but in the grand scheme of things, everything seems to be correct.

Thanks.
