Popkulturkampf-Stats and Non-Question Discussion

Post by Geringer »

On July 22nd, 2009, ten brave souls took part in Popkulturkampf, also known as the Geringer Basement Open, a playtesting of Trashtastrophe (high school trash solo tournament).

After the prelim rounds, which consisted of hearing a full 80 questions in a 1v1v1 or a 1v1v1v1 setting, point standings were as follows:

1. Ben Cohen 525
2. Kevin M (non quiz bowl) 375
3. Greg from BG 365
4. Jack Glerum 280
5. Robert Sido 270
6. David Garb 245
7. Jonah Greenthal 200
8. Betsy C (nqbf) 195
9. Jeff K (nqb) 125
10. Donielle M (nqbf) 70

The top eight players moved on to a single-elimination tournament, until Jonah transformed into Matt "I Showed Up for the Pizza and Rock Band" Laird...and we re-seeded him second. The next quarterfinal game was played in a shady locale, the Geringer Laundry Room.

1v8 Ben def Betsy 105-70
2v7 Laird def David 115-100
3v6 Kevin def Robert 100-90
4v5 Greg def Jack 115-30

1v4 Ben def Greg 115-80
2v3 Laird def Kevin 120-65

Final Laird def Ben 115-85
3rd Place Greg def Kevin 110-85

Any comments, concerns, questions, etc. can be directed to me at (abovetherim5523)ATaim.com
EDIT: 4chan (the bad website).org is being taken out of the packet.
DOUBLE EDIT: Because of word filters, I will restate that my question about the bastard cousin of ebaums, the Internet's Mos Eisley, will be omitted.

Other than that, can anyone name the last time an open tournament was held in a basement?

The two questions that relate to alcohol also need to be removed before this is presented to a high school audience. Other than that, this was a lot of fun and featured good questions. (Well, at least the few of them that I knew anything about were good.) Thanks to Dan and Jeff. Everyone should play this when it is available.

Wow. Congratulations to Mr. Laird.

This makes me even more excited for Trashtastrophe.

Haven't been able to look at a Stormtrooper since...even an action figure of one.

I thought the tournament was superb, except for a few little things that need to be editted, clarified, or changed. I am however disappointed I didn't get to make my before and after defeat photos of Laird (him having beat me), but the tournament was great and I would love to know how it turns out this fall.

I could be able to help. The calendar is clear, for now.
