ANNOUNCEMENT: EFT mirror at Gonzaga (Saturday Oct 3)

Post by martiansnoop »

The Gonzaga Quiz Bowl club is happy to announce that it will be mirroring EFT on October 3rd. To register, please e-mail me at eparker at gonzaga dot edu with the number of teams, staffers and buzzers.

FEES
Base fee: $100
Buzzer discount: -$5 each
Staff discount: -$10 each
Travel discount: -$10 per 200 miles traveled (one way)

LOCATION
The tournament will be held in College Hall. A campus map can be found here, and the street address is:

502 E. Boone Ave
Spokane, WA, 99258

START TIME
In the interest of not going too far into the evening, we are currently planning on starting at 8:00 AM. (There's a possibility that might get bumped to 9:00 for teams planning on making the drive the day, but I need to hear back from the GU student activities people to confirm that. Hopefully that'll happen sometime later today.)

FIELD UPDATE
UW: 2 teams, chance of 3
Boise State: 2 teams
Portland State: 1 team
Whitman: 1 team
house teams: 1 or 2, depending on how many staffers we can round up/get from other schools

We might also have a couple of local high schools.

UW will be there with at least one team, hopefully two.

So, is the fee per team or per school?
I apologize if this seems elementary.

I imagine the fee is per team.

We usually offer discounts to high school teams that play in our tournaments. You should contact Emily and ask if they are doing the same for this tournament.

Do to a series of unfortunate events, we will not be attending.
I'm really, really sorry about this.

Is Spokane on Pacific time? (We'll be staying with a team member's family near Post Falls, ID, so there may be a time zone difference. I just want to clarify this now so that I'm less confused later.)

The Internet tells me Pacific Time.

I don't know if you're been in contact with Whitman, but I imagine they're not too crazy about an 8 AM start if they're driving the morning of. Is there an afternoon/evening time limit that you're trying to not hit?

Also, will 8 AM be when registration starts, or when you actually plan on starting games?

Spokane is in fact Pacific Time.

With regards to start time: after further consultation with my team, we've decided that we will be starting the first round at 9:00 AM. We ask that teams show up by 8:30 for registration, understanding that Whitman may be slightly later than this since they're driving up that morning. We'll be there at 8:00, so if you show up before then the rooms may not be open, though the building will.

Looks like my initial estimate of 2 teams was premature. We'll only be bringing one team. (We have 5 people interested in going, but that's an awkward number and may involve another car, and either somebody sitting out or a 2- and 3-person team, so the 5th said he'd stay back if the 4th were going, and go if the 4th weren't going. If we'd have had 6 people interested in coming, like I thought we did, then we'd have brought 2 teams of 3, and 2 cars. My apologies.)

Also, apparently Post Falls is also on Pacific Time. If I'm misinformed about this, we'll be an hour, um, early. I guess that's not so bad, except shorting me on sleep.

Hey Colin, as of right now we'll have a second team coming which doesn't have a full roster of players. If your fifth still wants to come, they can play with our team (so long as Gonzaga is okay with this). We may also even have an extra spot in our hotel room if you guys don't have room in your hotel. We're staying in Spokane Valley, WA.

Can someone at Gonzaga let us know about where we should park?

The easiest place will be the lot directly north of College Hall (marked CG on the map. The lot isn't pictured for whatever reason, but it's there). There will be restricted parking signs all over but those are null and void on weekends.

The UW-Boise mixed team is fine with us.

It's probably not going to happen. Scott said that he'd come if we needed him to fill out our team, but that he really had work he had to get done. So, if Adam can't make it, Scott will. If Adam comes, Scott won't be needed.

Looks like we're just coming with 1 team.

UW A (Andrew Hunter, Molly, Brittany Clark and an occasional guest appearance by me) ended up winning with a 9-1 record. I think UW B got second. The field was UW A, UW B, Gonzaga, Boise, Portland State and Whitman.
