I remain a free agent. If any incomplete team is about to finish their packet, let me know what fractions and distributions I could complete. I should be able to bring 1-2 UIC lockouts + my CPS laptop if I drive; otherwise, I might fly from MDW to MSP and back on Southwest at their "Wanna get away?" fares.

Packet for team "Chicago 120 Days of Gautam" has been received by the -$25 discount deadline.

Also, we forgot to mention this, but Brian Lindquist has agreed to help us out with the physics distro for Minnesota Open. It is indeed very kind of him to help us out for this tournament. It certainly will improve the quality of physics from last year and provide the rest of us with more time to handle the tournament.

Another update:

We have rooms reserved at the 3rd floor of Coffman Union from 8AM to 2AM on Saturday and the early hours of Sunday.
As for Sunday, we can go from 12 PM to 11 PM, though we'd probably like to be done with stuff as soon as possible.

We have 9 rooms reserved for Saturday and (upto) 6 rooms on Sunday. As such, we will have to max out at 18 teams for MO/Fine Arts and 10-12 teams for Sunday's events.

The student union where we have rooms opens at noon on Sundays unless we choose to pay an exorbitant fee to open the building early. We could perhaps check into getting rooms in a different building on campus.

Maybe we should try to clarify the schedule for Sunday.

From the OP in this thread we have the Science event and Mike's vanity lit thing. Not mentioned in this thread is the guerilla sports over "lunch".

If nothing is starting before noon, it sounds like Science first, with "lunch" somewhere between 4 and 6 pm and the Lit in the evening? Does this sound about right?

If this is indeed the schedule, I'll probably play a few rounds of Mike's event as a free agent or if it's a free-for-all format.

I think this is a good plan. There is a rather large lobby to an auditorium that is always open and is right near Coffman and is almost never occupied, and I'm thinking that might be a good place for a free-for-all style event. Once I have a good idea how many rounds there are going to be, I'll announce a place and time for the sports tournament before Coffman opens.

Field update
Mike Bentley and Jonathan Magin
"Brown" (Jerry Vinokurov, Eric Mukherjee, Guy Tabachnick, ????)
Matt Weiner + Missouri
Harvard (Andy Watkins, Ted Gioia, Bruce Arthur, Dallas Simons)
Carleton (Carsten Gehring, Frank Firke, Austin Bell, Andreas Stoehr)
Brandeisota (Brendan Byrne, Mike Cheyne, Hannah Kirsch)
Illinois A
Illinois B
Chicago A
Chicago B
Chicago C (!)
Chicago D (!!!)
Michigan

Free Agents:
PAT FREEBURN
Kent Buxton (?)
Rom "R0M" Masrour
Trevor Davis
Billy Beyer

Packets Received:
Harvard (-$50)
Carleton (-$44)
Chicago A - 120 Days of Gautam (-$25)
Chicago B - Obscene Brendan Byrne of Night (-$0)
House (-$0)
Bentley/Magin (-$0)
Chicago D - Andrew Hart in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction (-$0)
Chicago C - A Carson of the Middle Skateboarder (+$5)
The above is an update of the team registration and packet submission information. We currently have 13 teams registered and eight packets received. The tentative plan is to play a full round robin, but in order to make any format dreams a reality, we need YOUR help! The sooner we hear who is planning to come, and which free agents are planning to play for which teams, the more flexibility we have to make sure the correct number of packets are produced to provide the best possible format.

If you're a team or free agent planning to come to this tournament and your name is not in the above quote, contact an editor ASAP!

We would also like to see the free agents in the above posts latch on to teams sooner rather than later, mainly so an extra team of FAs doesn't form at the last second and throw a wrench into format plans. The house team is looking to fill one more spot, and I'm pretty sure that there are two spots open on Jonathan Magin and Mike Bentley's team. Other teams that are looking for players should get into contact with the free agents listed above. If some of the FAs do want to write a packet and form a team, please let the editors know soon.

We will continually update the second post of this thread with additional information about teams and FAs.

With exactly three weeks to go before the main event, I have to withdraw as a free agent. Should I finally buy that belated used car by Columbus Day, I may drive to the Twin Cities on Sweetest Day, compete in the fine arts, hopefully sleep on a cot Saturday night, compete in the esoteric literature, and drive back Sunday evening to Chicago.

Hey, Trevor and Billy, if you play with Bentley and Magin, there will be an odd number of teams, thus ensuring (probably?) a totally awesome full round robin.

Back on September 3rd, I posed Bentley a similar query and he said "I don't think we have a slot on our main event team." Perhaps they have a surprise free agent or two? If not, I'll speak for Trevor and say we'd be fine with that.

Hello all,

Here's another reminder that this place is getting pretty cold, and that it would be advisable to bring in a good jacket, a pair of gloves, and a some warm object which covers the head. If it's going to be absolutely impossible for you bring some warm clothing with you, let me know. I can't promise much, but I can try to get an extra hat or two and maybe a pair of gloves.

Hey, everyone who's coming to this tournament: Please bring your buzzers! We'd rather have too many than not enough.

Yeah, piggybacking off of that, why don't teams email us telling us how many buzzers they're planning to bring? We need six, and we have one or two lined up so far. At least one person from each team should receive a final tournament details email in a few minutes, so please just respond to that.
