Minnesota Open weekend schedule

Post by theMoMA »

This post is the place to go for all of the best hot exciting updates of Minnesota Open's ever-evolving side event schedule.

Friday

Ehrenfest Disk Paradox Ultimate Frisbee
Time: presumably in the afternoon, when it's still light out
Place: East Bank River Flats (behind Coffman Union)

MN Open Basketball II
Time: around 8 PM
Place: Campus Rec Center

Saturday

Minnesota Open
Time: 8:00 AM (registration starts)
Place: Coffman Union third floor Mississippi Room

Ted and Shantanu's fine art tournament (announcement pending?)
Time: After Minnesota Open proper, and possibly after a dinner break
Place: The same as Minnesota Open

Sunday

Duranta and Uncle Jeff Present: Guerrilla Sports
Time: to be determined (likely 8:30 AM)
Place: Mayo Memorial Auditorium (lobby)

Mike Cheyne's Strange Literature Event
Time: to be determined. The event will possibly be a free-for-all event conducted in the Mayo Auditorium, and will possibly be a team event held after Coffman opens, either before or after Lederberg Science.
Place: either Coffman or Mayo (see above)

Lederberg Memorial Science Tournament
Time: likely 12 noon. This depends on the schedule for the Strange Lit event.
Place: Coffman Union

I think it would be helpful, in the interest of logistics management at the start of what will surely be a long day, to put some more detail around the start time. Something along the lines of: Registration starts at 8, opening meeting at 8:45, games start at 9, forfeits start at 9:15 if we haven't heard from you.

This is just my suggestion, of course, but speaking as someone who's staffing this shindig, a clean start makes for happier / less frazzled / more awake readers and players late in the day.

Regarding my own event, I'm strongly leaning towards it being shootout with special scoring rules even if we do play it in Coffman anyway.

If this is the case, and it's held before the science, I'd like to play.

There will be more info, but I didn't want to overstep my bounds and unilaterally declare when the tournament starts. I'm not sure we've decided yet, but it will definitely be posted for all to see very soon.

A friendly reminder to all:

This place has started to get cold (40s-50s) and I have a feeling that this weather will persist, if not worsen, come mid-October. As such, I advise all travelers to bring some warm clothing with them. A jacket, a pair of gloves, warm headgear, etc. will be useful.

Per request I am bringing the German bean farming game Bohnanza, which was a hit at NE EFT. I would like to organize a game of it Friday perhaps between frisbee ans basketball.

Mike Cheyne can you take the lead on organizing the Bohnanza game including securing time and place? Remember that I will not be there Sunday so it must be Fri or Sat, pref fri.

The only challenge I can see to this in specifically reserving a room is if this will indeed take place between frisbee and basketball, of which I do not know the times or if there is sufficient overlap between participants.

Barring a very large amount of people, you can always find some table in Coffman though to play card games, so I think we'll be okay.

Okay, even if Coffman doesn't work out, another bet would be these conference rooms in my apartment building, which is literally across the street from Coffman.
