I believe Emily from Gonzaga is currently confirming with administration as to whether they'd be able to host the tournament or not. I'll have her contact you once that happens.

Is this going to be hosted at UVA? We don't have a Mid-Atlantic mirror lined up (for this or Minnesota Open), so it'd be cool if the UVA people could update us on the status.

Yeah, unless someone else wants to put in a bid, it's going to be UVA. I only say that because I'm still unsure whether Maryland wanted to do this.

Ok, UVA are now your mid-Atlantic hosts. In addition, UCLA will be the West Coast site for EFT. The announcement will be updated.

This thread is full of mirror-related discussion and useless chatter, but not so much people telling me that they're coming to the tournament. We're reserving rooms in a larger building this year so we can accommodate up to 30 teams (I believe; Dennis will correct me if I lie) but we'd really like to know who those teams are going to be. If you're planning on coming, you should either post in this thread or email both myself and Dennis.

Penn will likely be coming to the Brown site for EFT; number of teams is still up in the air.

Is there any chance we could get a good idea of how long the tournament is expected to run? Some (perhaps all) of us will be taking Amtrak up.

We will do our best to get you out by 6, but that means people have to show up on time; attendees, take note.

Hey, a few things:

1) If you have not yet told us how many teams you are bringing DO SO SOON. We need to hear from you by Wednesday so we can coordinate staffing. Don't just assume you can bring arbitrary numbers of teams and expect us to accommodate you.

2) If you're one of the teams that might need a ride from the train station, let me know; we can hook you up but only if we know about it in advance. If I get a call on Saturday morning asking for a pickup that I wasn't aware was necessary I will frown mightily.

2) After the tournament there will be a party at my apartment. All and sundry are welcome. If you think you might need to stay the night, I have an inflatable mattress, a futon big enough for two people, and a comfy chair for sleeping. I guess you can also sleep on the floor (I think I have a sleeping bag) if you want. First come, first serve.

We'll also have at least two, but I'll know more by Tuesday. Also, unless Eric has something up his sleeve, we would certainly appreciate a ride from the train station. I'll e-mail you about that.

Update so far:

Yale (4)
Brandeis (1)
Hunter HS (1)
Penn (3)
MIT (1)
Harvard (3)
Cornell/UConn (3)
Columbia (1)

Updated again because I forgot a few teams. That's a total of 17 with some number of house teams rounding out the field. There will be brackets and then playoffs.

Hey, I e-mailed you about this but didn't really hear back--can a ride be arranged for us from the train station? We'll have ~12 people in need of a ride and are landing a little after 7am Saturday. If you can take even some subset of these people if you don't feel like making multiple trips, that'd be cool as it saves us money.

Hi, Jerry, Dennis,

MIT will hopefully be bringing one team, but no staffers and probably no buzzers (I haven't seen a single buzzer here since I started practicing, so...).

Also, I have two questions. One, will it be possible to pick up ~4 MIT players from the Providence train station around 8 AM, and two, where on Brown's campus, and what time in the morning, is the tournament?

Thanks much,

Yeah dude, I got you covered. I'll probably need to make multiple trips to get you all or you could also try and get a cab from the station (shouldn't cost you more than $10). In any case, I'll be there at about 7 to get as many of you as I can.

The tournament will be in Wilson Hall, which is on the main campus. Main campus is located just south of Waterman St. and east of College. There are maps at several of the entrances but either I or Dennis will post a map and detailed directions tomorrow. I'll come get you guys around 8, but you should call me when you're getting close to the station; my number is 858-882-7899.

Also, I know for a fact that MIT owns a buzzer because I've played on it. Unless it got broken during the summer, you guys should still have it. Please make every effort to find it as we are in critical need of buzzers.

Grace asserted to me two weekends ago that she lost those buzzers. I am not sure why or how. She blames Yi Sun, somehow, but I don't know what I or anyone can do about that.

Jerry,

Yeah, sorry about the buzzers - Grace says that Harvard actually has our buzzers, although if Andrew Watkins isn't sure about that, then I don't know where they went. D: Thanks for being willing to go pick us up, btw.

Also, I was wondering...would arriving in the Providence train station at 8:50 be a bit late, if the tournament plans to start at 9? (and would we still be able to get a ride?) Our original plan was to get there around 8:00, but someone found a later train that would arrive around 8:50, and...apparently, waking up early is a turn-off point for some of our players who would otherwise be perfectly willing to go. I don't think we'll be changing our arrival time, since the later train is hell expensive, but I'm asking just in case.

Thanks much,

Just a heads-up from Brandeis, too: We're coming on the commuter rail, so we'll either need to be shuttled over or to take a cab. Obviously, the former is preferable.

I think 8:50 is probably fine. We're trying to get everything started as soon as we can, of course, but the delay from this should be minimal.

Fortunately most other teams in the region do not have Yi Sun on their roster so unless something goes terribly wrong you won't be playing slap bowl.

In the rush to rebracket, I forgot to upload the round 9 stats. I will upload them and fix the error in your individual stats now.

I left a brown hoodie at the tournament site. It is brown with a hood and two white draw-strings. It zips up. I bought it at J. Crew so it should have a J. Crew logo on one of the tags, but has no logo on the outside.

I believe I left it in 101 (being too phased by the results of the final to realize that I had brought it in), but it could also have been left in 109 or 105. If any Brown person finds it please contact me.

Ian, can we get the finals entered as well? Also, why are the round report numbers different from the prelims to the playoffs?

I'll stop by Wilson tonight. If I can get into the building, I'll take a look.

Done.

The playoff stats only include prelim games played between teams that ended up in the same playoff bracket.
