The 2005 NAQT Ohio Championship
I am delighted to annouce the date and site for the 2005 NAQT Ohio Championship.
The tournament will be held on April 16, 2005 on the campus of Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio. The registration fees will be determined once I receive final confirmation of room charges and other expenses from the university, but for right now here are the figures I am going with.
Base fees
$100 per team
$175 for two teams
You may register a third team. All third teams will be placed in a drawing and enough third teams to increase the field to a multiple of eight will be chosen. Teams chosen will not pay an additional charge. Teams NOT chosen will receive a $25 refund, provided all members of that third team are present the day of the tournament.
Buzzer discounts will be $5 or $10, max 2, depending on local support
Reader discounts will be $10 or $20, max 2, depending on the number of volunteers
Travel discounts
Starting from
$0: Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Stark, and Portage counties
all the way to
$40: Hamilton, Clermont, Brown, Adams, Scioto, and Lawrence counties
Format to be determined as final number of teams becomes clear.
I am hoping to award state championships in at least two divisions, possibly three.

[email protected]
Thank you, and I hope to see you in Youngstown on April 16!

I will, Noah, once I get more forms. Right now it is...
You guys
North Olmstead
Campbell Memorial (Mahoning County)
Garfield Heights
Howland (Trumbull County)
That's why I was waiting.
I've received e-mails of interest, but I don't count a team in until I have paper in hand. There Bob, HAPPY NOW? :)

Yeah well,
We would be registered except Greg said to wait a while....
We will be there... as will Tipp I'm sure, Copley has committed, Fisher will probably come.... it should be a good tournament... especially if it gets broken up well by different divisions....

Greg--
Once you get all the logistics done, I think it would be logical to divide the divisions up as close to what you wanted to do originally, but then be logical about it... like, if the 1,000+ schools have 7, then firestone would bump up, but if they have 9, we would bump down... or you could bump a whole nother bracket up to make 16... you'll have to figure out what you want to do.... either way, it should be fun.... i think its time to get these schools to fully register, seeing as its only a month away now...

it was the heat of the moment
Guys, I regret to say that Fisher will probably not make it. Well, we won't. We recently decided played in PA's battle of the burgh using the same questions. I'd love to see you guys there but I'm pretty sure no one would appreciate it and NAQT would probably rip us. Sorry to miss out, good luck to all.

I believe a relative of Ms. Stevenson's put them up in Pittsburgh, thus saving on lodging expenses.
When can we get a field update?

Tis a good question senior bellas. Really, we do love travel and Mrs. Stevenson does indeed have connections in the burgh. We've gone several years now and it was always a fun trip, almost tradition if you will. I guess we just opted to change up the competition a bit. College run tournaments are kinda fun too, with wacky zany prizes, etc. Anyways, it was worth it, good competition and questions(mmm... NAQT). Sorry to miss out on the youngstown action, good luck to all those competing

I want to congratulate Solon for winning the Grand Championship and Tipp and Firestone for winning the divisional championships...
Who would've thought we'd beat Solon and Copley both, and lose the thing to Firestone....
Greg-- I thought the tournament was well-run. Reader and time issues were the only downsides, and I thought the tournament was pretty smooth otherwise. I look forward to future incarnations of the tournament.
Noah, good luck if you do go out to Pasadena...... as long as they give you enough money (scam if you ask me to get you to sign...)
I'm sure Greg will post the stats eventually...
Congrats Noah and Zach as well for individual performance...
Who knows, maybe I will end up doing my student teaching at Solon next year... wouldn't that be a scary good team?
