2-day Tournament at Solon, Ohio (2/13-2/14)

Post by Unicolored Jay »

Hello everyone!

Solon High School in Solon, Ohio is hosting a two-day tournament on February 13 and 14 of 2010. We are using NAQT's set IS-92 on the 13th and Hunter Prison Bowl 3? on the 14th. There is no field size limit and no registration deadline, but try to tell us how many teams you will bring in advance so we know how many rooms we need open (and an approximate number of buzzer sets we need, although hopefully that won't be a problem), preferrably by February 9th or so.

Costs:
One day:
$70 for first team
$60 for second team
$40 for each additional team

For the second day you attend:
$50 for first team
$40 for each additional team

Discounts:
-$10 for buzzer system (max 2)
-$10 for reader

If you are interested, send an email to [email protected] (without the NOSPAM).

Hudson (3)
Olmsted Falls (2)
Culver, IN (2)
South Range
Northmont

Hawken (2)
Sts John and Paul (1-2)

Eastern, KY

Field (Sunday) - 11 teams

Obviously we're interested in this and will be going, but just a side note, Ike ran a tournament on HSAPQ questions at Kent State lastyear.

I'm assuming he means this year, because we ran our Great Lakes tournament last year with an HSAPQ set as well.

I know that several schools are going to this tournament definitely, but I'm going to hold on posting a field.

I hope the field is as strong as last years'. Hopefully we'll have some teams from Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania?

duPont Manual (KY) is planning on attending with four teams.

I believe Ballard (KY) is planning on attending as well. I imagine Ballard will bring 2 teams.

I really hope we can make it to this.
It would be our first ever multi-tournament event.
I will try to convince one of our coaches to go.
If we attend, it will be with two teams.

Thanks for reminding me about that Sandy.
I had forgotten completely.
It would be a lot easier for us to travel to Centre that day.

There is the large possibility that we're having a packet switch. More to follow once we figure out what set we're using for sure.

First post updated with an actual field and the set that we're looking at using. Sunday is severely lacking in teams, however. It's possible that Sunday could be canceled...

Please don't cancel Sunday no matter how small... even if it's just the teams you listed... We're coming a long way for this tournament and have already booked our hotel rooms on Hotwire...

Happy Saturday teams: Please register for Sunday as well! This is a great set of tournaments- please support it by coming both days!

I've suggested this tournament to Parkersburg High School. It could happen.

We'll do our best to get teams, don't worry.

Field edited after a somewhat serious interpretation error on my part. Luckily, it doesn't affect Sunday.

Anyone know what either school is doing the weekend of this tournament? Are they going to our tournament or to Centre College's T-Party mirror? (Or somewhere else?) We haven't received anything from them.

The Sunday field may have Solon teams in it in order to fill brackets as the field size is really small. Anyone remotely interested...?

Hey, I heard some rumblings that you guys might want to read a mirror of Trashtwostrophe on Saturday night or something like that. Let me know via email if you guys are still up for that. Seeing as your field is currently blind to eight rounds, I can send that set along ASAP if you need it. ([email protected])

I should be there on Saturday barring anything coming up (which given the circumstances right now, could very well happen).

My prediction for Saturday:

1. Northmont
2. Olmsted Falls
3. South Range
4. St. Charles (or Copley if they're there)

I'm actually surprised to not see some of the powerhouses of the past there this year... No DCC, Manual, Russell, etc.

I would definetly put Culver above us, as they pounded us at their event two weeks ago. Could have been the set, but they were right there with DCC that day. Given some of the Skype practices we have had for the All-State team, Olmsted could knock us off too, as Jim has improved much more than any of my players throughout the course of the year. Could be a crapshoot, as we have bombed in our last few NAQT events- Sunday should be better for us.

Culver will be somewhere at the top, no doubt. And if Hudson returns a lot of their team that was at this event last year it wouldn't surprise me to see them upset a team or two. Olmsted and Culver are the favorites to win this, IMO, mostly due to Northmont's lack of NAQT skills. If it were any other questions, I'd say they were the favorite. I'd also expect Tipp to beat St. Charles if it were to come to that.

I have no idea where we'll finish. Copley would probably beat us, though, if they do come Saturday.

Yeah we're playing that IS set this weekend at Michigan State and we already did a prison bowl mirror at Huskie Bowl at Northern Illinois University last weekend.

Hello everyone on this board, this tournament happened, with Olmsted Falls winning both days.

For Saturday, stats should be posted sometime soon on the NAQT Results page. I did not get the files, so I could not use SQBS.

For Sunday, I have the stats uploaded here. The TrashTwoStrophe mirror, won by a group of readers/coaches, is also posted.

Edit: Posted the wrong link.
