Penn Bowl NW - U of Washington - 2/20/10

Post by Mike Bentley »

The University of Washington is pleased to announce that it will be running a delayed mirror of Penn Bowl on Saturday, February 20th, 2010. This will be followed by a mirror of Penn Bowl Trash on Sunday, February 21st, 2010.

Teams are not required to write a packet, although doing so will get you a discount. Let me know if you're interested and when you think you can finish your packet for specifics on the discount.

This tournament will be open to all players, with the provision that open teams are not formed to be clearly better than the rest of the field.

Fees:
+$100 base fee per team
-$10 discount for any additional team from a school
-$5 buzzer discount per school
-$15 travel disocunt for traveling over 200 miles one way to the tournament
-$20 moderator discount
-$20 high school discount
-$10 Canada discount (majority of players live in Canada)
-$30 discount to any college team that hasn't played in a quizbowl tournament prior to 9/1/2009

I'm willing to offer further discounts for short-handed or self-funded teams.

More details coming soon.

Note: I realize that this tournament is taking place on the same day as ACF Regionals. However, we've concluded that Penn Bowl will be more likely to attract a greater number of teams--including some new ACUI teams we hope to attract from SCT.

Field Update (as of 2/13/10):

Portland State (1)
Bellevue College (1)
UW (2-3)

Free Agents:
Chris Grubb

I'm still trying to get in contact with some other people in the region to see if they're interested in coming.

So this tournament "happened" with four "teams" (e.g. two house teams and two teams of people playing by themselves) playing a double round robin followed by a final. UW A was the victor. Stats can be found here: http://doc-ent.com/quizbowl/Penn%20Bowl ... dings.html

Thanks to Daniel Pareja and Deskin/Alex for helping to moderate.

By the way, if the Penn Bowl forum can be opened up or merged into the regular discussion (assuming it doesn't contain discussion of the trash tournament which we're running tomorrow and I think some other site is running later) that'd be great.
