I might be interested in playing on the 27th. There's a smaller chance Brittany might also be interested, and an even smaller chance that an entire UW team will drive down and play on that date.

Berkeley will probably be able to send at least one team either day. If we write a packet, I won't be contributing to it.

Ok it looks like an actual UW-ish team (e.g. three UW people and me assuming we get approval from the editors--if not it will be a UW team and a team of me playing by myself) would be willing to fly down and play this tournament if it happens on the 27th. If anyone in the Bay Area has a place for us to crash that would be extra great.

Berkeley can bring two teams as well as two buzzers. We have a slight preference for 2/27.

We may have 5 people coming, so we might be willing to split into two teams and incorporate this person onto the team.

Hey if anyone coming from Berkeley has extra space in their car to drive some of us from Oakland (or possibly Berkeley) on Saturday to Palo Alto and back that would be greatly appreciated. If you guys are willing to take an extra car or two to drive us we'd certainly pay for gas.

By the way, I'd be interested in playing the Lit/Fine Art Singles being held at Chipola the day before this tournament takes place since I don't plan on doing anything else on Saturday night.

It seems like we will only be able to bring two cars to Stanford, so we can't help you going. However, I believe a third should arrive sometime in the tournament's midst, so we ought to be able to drive you back. I should confirm this with the drivers before making any promises, however. Post when you know the details.

Can we get a field update? It would be great if more than like 4 teams were signed up for this tournament.

Feedback from many of the high school players who played this tournament was positive. I think this would be a fun tournament for some NorCal teams to attend.

The field hasn't changed since the last update. It would be nice to hear from some of the SoCal teams, but this has been a busy month for quizbowl tournaments, so I understand if schools can't make it.

Is Stanford going to have a house team or two to boost the field if teams don't show?

Pending our ability to find a 21+ y.o. member to go with us, CWRU will be flying in a team for this. I should know by tomorrow whether or not this will actually happen.

It's confirmed, we're coming. We'll be there with at least 3 players, 4 if I can find someone else who's able to go. We can bring up to 3 buzzer sets if you absolutely need them, but we'd obviously rather not in order to avoid the insane checked baggage fees.

Also, I can't speak for the others on the team, but I would personally be up for playing the Lit/Fine Arts tournament or Bentley's Visual Arts tournament (preferably the latter) if you plan on hosting a side event.

Bellarmine is 95% likely to bring a team, although it will likely be an amalgamation of our A, B, and C teams. However, we need to know how much we have to pay to play. At least a couple of our guys would totally play a LitFineArts tournament if it was offered.

Yes, we'll try to run the Lit/Fine Arts singles tournament after the main event. Staff might be a little tight for the singles tournament, so if anyone is interested in helping staff it, let me know.

And since we haven't run a Cardinal Classic this year, this T-Party mirror is officially going to be Cardinal Classic XIX.

The current field for Saturday is:

University of Washington - 1
UC-Berkeley - 2
CWRU - 1
Bellarmine HS - 1
Stanford House - 1
Total: 6

If we stay at 6 teams, we'll play a double-round robin, followed by an advantaged final if necessary.

I suppose somebody will post full results at some point.
In any case, I heard that Stanford won the tournament, besting the field entirely.
Our school competed in its first collegiate tournament ever and, using 4 players that had a combined 4.5 years of quiz bowl experience, went 2-8, losing two really close games. Wish I was there for this...

Stanford's house team went 10-0 in double round-robin to win the T-Party mirror. We also played six rounds of lit singles and Andrew won by a substantial margin. Full stats to follow sometime.

Regarding logistics, this was one of the better run West Coast tournaments I've been to. Schedules and invoices were printed out ahead of time, buzzers were set up during registration and the moderators were getting through packets at a pretty fast pace. I look forward to more West Coast tournaments being run like this in the future.

The full results for Cardinal Classic XIX, including the Lit/Fine-Arts "singles" tournament, may be found here:

Sorry about the delay.

I'd like to thank all the teams that came to the tournament. I'd also like to thank Jacob Kalichman, Phil Shiu, and Josh Falk for moderating, and Tony Tzeng and Jason Ma for helping with stats. Finally, thanks to Jeff and Brittany for moderating the Lit/Fine-Arts event.
