Field goes here. So far, no one has indicated any interest.

Location is up in the air. Steps are being taken to avoid the Armory, but the location is not nailed down. That information will go here once it is figured out.

So, I'd like to start playing this game of "quizbowl" again, and I think I can make it to this. If anyone wants a washed up designated hitter, let me know.

I was going to add around 5 more question marks for that purpose, but then I thought that such a thing would be rather annoying, so I only added one.

I'd bet we'll be able to scrape up a house team. I think at least three of us will be around and wanting to play, though staffing the thing obviously comes first. Given the character of the field and questions, I'd guess we'll probably wind up doing this in a potluck style with some kind of round robin (hopefully with people reading on byes,) followed by something fun like a draft or singles tournament. Obviously, we'll modulate tournament fees to reflect the extent of services we're providing.
To sweeten the deal and get people here for this thing, I'll pre-emptively announce a kickin' party of some sort after the tournament. While we may fall short of the 120 gallons of beer and me walking literally out of town to end the night that made the last such event so special, I will promise a good time for all*. Come and you, too, can drunkenly neg trash questions and be forced to chug beer after beer while you marvel at such such quizbowl relics as a Matt Colvin Retirement Tour sweatshirt from the wardrobe of Dom Ricci and a non-functional Chairman of the Board windup clock awarded to me by Andrew Yaphe in commemoration of our victory at the Chicago intramural tournament!

Because the 20th is officially the beginning of our Spring break, should the request be approved, we will be stuck in the Armory. The Armory is (fittingly) found on Armory in Champaign, and stretches from Fourth to Sixth St. I tried in earnest to to avoid it, but can't risk getting fired (and possibly worse).

For parking, Lots E-3 (corner of Sixth and Gregory) and E-12 (Gregory, between the BIF and Huff Hall) should have plenty of open space, and is free. Be wary, though: There will probably be a good amount of traffic on the busy roads, due to dorm people getting booted out.

Map of general area - http://illinois.edu/ricker/CampusMap?ta ... ap&grid=J7

Lunch - we have a number of chain restaurants on Green St, west of Wright: Subway (there's also one on Daniel St between Sixth and Wright), Jimmy Johns, Qdoba, Chipotle, Noodles, Potbelly's, and some local fare as well.

If you are for sure coming, let us know, so we can figure out a schedule and what to do about a house team.

I could play solo for UIC if that would assist with bracketing. You may also consider me a free agent, more than willing to join forces with Greg and Ryan.

Gautam and I are not sure if we will be attending yet or not. I know that I would like to play, but we are having some trouble finding transportation to and from UIUC, and we wouldn't be getting any funding from the University for this tournament. I will try to let you know what our plans our within the next few days.

Michigan - 2 teams
Chicago - 1 team
Minnesota - 0-1 teams

Free agents:
Rom
Byrne(?)
Durgin
Westbrook
Peterson

There will be a house team. Depending on the need for staff (I may try to read, TD, and do stats simultaneously), there might be one full house team, and another hybrid house/FA team.

My post from six hours ago (2 teams/3 buzzers) still holds. I suppose it should be noted we only have 6 people signed up to go, so they'd have room for free agents if people wanted to do that.

Michigan:

If I do stick you guys with FAs or house folk, you'll only be charged 45 for that half-team.

Free agents will be charged $25 each, with applicable discounts.

Checks should be made payable to Academic Buzzer Team.

Also: If teams/individuals are interested, people can order one-topping pizzas from Papa Johns for $5 each. I will be making such an order for the ABT folk, so I would merely tack on the requests to our order. Payment by cash only on Saturday.

Right now the teams are:

Michigan

Free Agents (I'm sticking you on the same team)
House Team
Minnesota (?) (with house folk?)
Chicago

Right now, I'm thinking double RR, final, and then some sort of draft on the remaining packets.

If you have any questions, email me, or call me at two one seven four nine three, four five zero zero. If something comes up Friday afternoon, PLEASE DO NOT CALL ME. You will be berated Satuday, and possibly beaten.

The problem is that as of now Gautam and I don't have a reasonable way to get to and from UIUC. We probably won't be coming, unless we can find some reasonable way to get to and from the tournament.

We can't get into the building until 8. Due to administrative issues, we do not know what rooms. What we do know is that we will be stuck in the Armory again.

Teams: be at the Armory by 8:30 for registration. I aim to start rounds at 9.

Looks like Michigan will actually have 7 players total - the extra spot's still free for anyone you want to put in it, though.

EDIT: No, it's actually back down to 6. Sorry about all the confusion.

There are apparently no more vans (or cars) to be had from the university, we weren't able to find anyone willing to lend us a car, and can't afford to rent one, so unfortunately Michigan's team and a half will have to drop out. Sorry - we've never been unable to get a university car before...

We're really sorry about springing this on you the week of the tournament. The university has over 80 cars and vans, and it is unprecedented for us to not be able to reserve them.

With Michigan dropping, here's where we are:

Chicago
Free Agents
House 1
House 2

The house teams will probably have three people on each. Triple RR, final, then possible scrimmage. I'll grab some books to give to the top two teams and individuals.

The reservation process is still the major hang-up. I'm going to make two trips to the appropriate offices tomorrow, and get this shit straightened out. My phone number and email address are posted. If you got questions, get in touch.

Ok, so it looks like at least three of us can make it. I think Phil also found another car that we could use, so we might all be able to make it after all. Sorry about the hassle.

Also, Gautam and I won't be coming. Sorry it didn't work out.

Since Michigan is indeed coming, we're going back to a double RR, final, plus any scrimmaging/drafts/whatever.

Tomorrow:

Registration will be in room 241. See the map here: http://www.fs.uiuc.edu/ada/0006.html. The building is a maze, feel free to call me if you get lost. My phone number, again, is two one seven four nine three four five zero zero. Leave me a voice mail or text me if I don't pick up.

Games will be in 241 and 243. Please bring buzzers in case we decide to do six teams for scrimmages, and to save your team money.

Time to see how much I know about contracts,
Donald Taylor
