Chicago Open matchmaking thread
Since I don't like it when announcements get cluttered up with endless "seeking teammate" messages, I'll start a separate thread for CO.
I would like a team for this tournament. I have three goals with regards to teammates:
1) to play with people whom I've never played with before
2) to submit a packet by the early deadline
3) to win the tournament
If you would like to participate in all of the above, get in touch with me, at [email protected] or any other method.

Re: Chicago Open matchmaking thread
I'm interested in playing CO, but I'm not 100% sure that I can be there that weekend. I will learn soon as to whether or not I have something lined up for the summer, in which case I won't be able to go.
I don't particularly care who i play with. I refuse to write the "other science" questions but I'll happily write 4/4 science and some other stuff. Contact me at [email protected] if you're interested.

I'm not sure if I'll be there, but my plan is to write a packet by myself for the earliest possible deadline in either case. If you are sure that you'll be dedicated enough to follow through with this and have a vested interest in delighting Jerry with an early submission, email me at [email protected] and tell me what you want to write.

I'm interested in teaming up with people looking to hit the early deadline and who know things I do not know, especially science. There's a very low possibility Frank will be playing this with me, and I know you wouldn't want to miss out on that opportunity if it happens. [email protected] if you're interested.

Hey, I'd like to play this as my first hard tournament and would like teammates who are better than I am. [email protected] if you don't mind taking someone who might not be all that helpful, but might get some solid buzzes at times.

I'm quite interested in playing this. It's not 100% that I'll be able to attend, but it's pretty likely. I'm willing to write anything but science and social science and I don't particularly care about winning (though any and all wins are welcome). Expect some low PsPG from me with very rare moments of brilliance and some hideous negs. Who wants to ball up? Either post here or email [email protected].

I am privately courting two local high schoolers for this team, so for that last spot I am interested in having a pretty good other college player who can help us make sure we don't place last. Obviously this isn't a contending kind of team, but hopefully we can at least do OK.

I am probably going to staff this because I am not sure if I have time or will to write a packet and I don't want to be THAT GUY who drags a packet's completion down.
If you are the enterprising sort who is not fazed by this (and If I do end up writing little of the packet, I would pay more of the fee/buy dinner for teammates, whatever), then let's talk shop at cheyne AT wmis DOT net. I'd certainly want to play with my pupil, Matt Bollinger, but I do not match his criteria of being "better than he is."

I probably will be playing this as I have nothing better to do this summer. I won't bring in a lot of points, but I can fill some gaps in a team's science knowledge.

I am ~80 percent sure I can come to this, and would be interested in teammates. At this level of difficulty, my value is probably directly proportional to the amount of current events and obscure 20th century music that makes it into the final set.
Fair warning: I won't be able to start writing any questions until something like the second week of May, and can't write science or myth.

Yeah, I'd like to play with some new teammates (ideally ones who know history and science), make a run at winning the whole damn thing, and have a blast even if we don't. If that sounds good, email me at [myfirstname].[mylastname]@gmail.com (with my first name and last name in those brackets).

I'd like to play for a team looking to get the earliest packet discount and also looking to enjoy itself a shit-ton regardless of record. Hopefully should have decent lit, american history Eastern History Religion VIsual art and Trash if there is any (and maybe some more if I tug as hard as I'm hoping for ACF nats.) Hit me up, I believe my e-mail and aim are on the side.

So, yeah, it's very likely that I'll be there, and I'd shoot for writing my part of a packet right after ACF Nats. I'm game for playing on any sort of amusing team. The only thing I absolutely cannot tolerate is finishing in first place. [email protected].

I definitely would play if my schedule allowed it; at present, what I'm doing this summer is up in the air and some possibilities a decent chance of interfering with my ability to steal away to Chicago for a weekend. Still, I have ca-ray-zy tossup ideas and could likely get them in for an early deadline. I will update further once I get better news about what I'm doing over the summer.

I won't know my summer schedule 100% for a while (we just started Spring quarter on Monday), but I'm going to see if I can go to this. My strengths would be physics and physical chemistry, random other science and if any trash or current events show up. I'd be just sitting there for literature, mythology and non-economics social science as well as painting.

I plan on playing Chicago open, preferably with some new teammates. My strongest areas are fine arts (especially music) and physics/engineering, although I also know some myth, literature, and non-western history, plus the occasional random stuff here and there.

Jacob Durst and I will be at CO. We're also trying to get our packet in by the first deadline if possible, and almost certainly by May 15th.
Jacob knows some lit and some fine arts; I pretend to know stuff about RMP and Social Science. We both know some history, but are completely worthless at science. We'd love to play with anyone who needs a couple of teammates, though having someone with science knowledge would be superb.
Anyway, if anyone's interested, e-mail me at sankaran[dot]4[at]buckeyemail[dot]osu[dot]edu.

I'm interested in playing this. I'll likely net you no points at all, so I'd encourage you not to pick me if you're interested in winning, but I'll try to be a fun person to be around or something. All I know really well is Japanese stuff, and some lit and myth, I guess. I have a lot of free time to write things, so I guess that's a plus. You can contact me at jhansen2998[at]gmail[dot]com.

Hello. I am acting as David Seal's agent in his search for a Chicago Open team. David Seal would be a welcome addition to your team, with advantages including:
- a solid knowledge of US history, including some areas of quite strong knowledge
- a proven winner, with a national championship to his name
- an amiable personality
- usually acceptable personal hygiene
If you are interested in having David on your team, please contact me at m a r n o l d @ uchicago DOT edu. I will be pre-screening offers so David will end up with the best Chicago Open experience possible. Thank you for your time.

Re: Chicago Open matchmaking thread
Spring break has reminded me that I like quizbowl. So there is a greater chance I will play this than I originally thought. I am not very good. At last year's Chicago Open, I answered questions on "literature" (Come Back, Little Sheba; Ironweed), "mythology" (werewolves), and "history" (Locofocos, the Liberian Civil War). I can also answer questions after other teams neg them. And I can cause teams with Ike Jose on them to neg. My e-mail address is off to the side.

Re: Chicago Open matchmaking thread
My family's moving to Chicago this summer, but I'm not sure when. I'll probably want to play CO if I'm there, so I'll tentatively announce my interest in joining a team. I think I've got 4/0 lit already, too, if that helps, although it probably needs editing. And you're welcome to have the tossups even if I don't play.
On high school questions I'm competent in every subject except computer science, but I doubt there's any category I'll get lots of tossups on at CO.
EDIT: Oh yeah, email me at [email protected]. And by lots of tossups I mean something like >3.

This might not be the thread to do it in, but I've got interesting pockets of knowledge in a few things and would like to assist a team by writing like 4/4 or something. I am most likely staffing this event and have no interest in actually playing the Saturday main event.

Re: Chicago Open matchmaking thread
I signed our team up on that; I think a regular google docs spreadsheet is also helpful for team formation purposes, since people can see who's available without filling out the form, there's a place to keep track of free agents, and it's easily editable.grapesmoker wrote:There's already a spreadsheet for these things in the announcement thread; I guess it would be nice if people actually paid attention to that, but what the hell, do whatever you want.

Re: Chicago Open matchmaking thread
I'm looking for a team for this. I might be playing with Charles Meigs, but he doesn't know if he will be in the U.S. when Chicago Open takes place. If you are interested in playing with Charles and/or I, you can e-mail me.

Hey,
Unfortunately, my team's dissolved, so I'm accepting offers. Drop me an e-mail or PM if you're interested in retaining my services. I'll happily write my share of a packet, of course.

Re: Chicago Open matchmaking thread
I'm looking for teammates for this. A packet has already been submitted (waiting on Jerry to let me know which discount it counts for), so no writing would be required for said teammates. I could be looking for as few as 1 or as many as 3 (I wish that I knew more, but my potential teammates, Chris Horng of Columbia and Charlie Loelius of Rutgers, are waiting for their summer plans to solidify before committing). If you're interested in playing without writing, though, this seems like a good opportunity. E-mail me, if you're interested, and I'll do my best to keep you updated on everything.

I'm out of this tournament (due to scheduling and other concerns). I was going to be playing with Carsten Gehring, David Seal and Stephen Liu, and as I've nearly finished with my part of the packet, this spot would involve no writing.

Why do you picture John of Gaunt as a rather emaciated grandee?

Charlie Rosenthal and I both still want to play, but we've decided to dissolve ourselves in some combination to shorthanded teams. Neither of us have much preference for where we go, so if you're interested in having us play for you, let us know.
