[April 24th] 1st Duke Invitational

Post by azngod1992 »

Duke University is excited to announce our first annual Spring tournament. We'll be hosting IS-92 and we have Regional Exclusivity for North Carolina. We will not be using timers and there will be no math questions. Depending on the number of teams, we will be doing either a full-round robin with a winner declared if a team clears the field by two wins, advantaged finals if they clear the field by one game, and a single finals game if tied. Otherwise, if field becomes too large, we will be doing two or more round robin brackets followed by single elimination playoffs.

Fee Structure:
$70 - Base Fee
$10 - Travel Discount - 200 mile according to Google Maps
$10 - First Buzzer
$5 - For Second and Third buzzers
Based on need, we will offer a $10 moderator discount (TBA)

Time: Registration starts at 8:30am, tournament starts at 9am.
Location: Biological Sciences

FIELD UPDATE (4/21)
Raleigh Charter - 3 teams
Kipp Gaston - 2 teams
Cave Spring - 3 team
* = not confirmed.

Please contact [email protected] to register or with any questions. Please include the number of teams, number of buzzers, and possible number of moderators you can bring. Please make checks out to Duke College Bowl.

Is there a field update on this tourney?

Also, I sent an e-mail to the above listed address and I never got an answer to my questions. Anyway, we're interested. We can bring at least 1 team, possibly up to 3. We can bring up to 3 buzzer systems and supply maybe 1 moderator, if needed.

Just a reminder everyone, this is still happening! We're officially lowering the base price by 10 dollars in order to attract more teams!

The tournament will officially start at 9:00AM in Biological Science. A map of Duke's campus can be found here: http://map.duke.edu/. Food can be found in the Bryant Center (McDonald's, Panda Express, ect...).

@Kamikaze: I am not personally involved in registration and field updates; however, according to our team captain, you should have received an email reply either last night or early this morning (with the most recent field update). I will attempt to get the field update posted here ASAP. As of last night, I think we have somewhere around 7 teams registered for this tournament. At this rate (assuming two or three more teams), we'll probably do a single round robin with some kind of playoff system depending on the number of teams that ultimately sign up. We should have enough moderators to accommodate all the teams.

We're still accepting new teams until Friday!

However, it looks like the registration has slowed down considerably. By the looks of it, we'll have 8 teams, which means we will do a full round-robin prelim followed by rebracketing into two 4-team playoff round robin. With this structure, all teams are going to play 10 games. Due to budget issues, we hope you like book prizes instead of actual trophies. Since this is our first time hosting a buzzer tournament in recent memory, we would really appreciate patience and understanding should any issues pop up.

The prelims and playoffs were round robin. In the second playoff match of 3 (top 4 teams) Cave Spring had come back to be 20 behind with one TU left. They got TU 20, but unfortunately then zeroed the bonus to save RCHS A.

Great effort by Cave Spring!

It's IS 92, so I would suspect not until all other NAQT sets are cleared.

Yes, please. However, I'm not sure if we're going to get them anytime soon. Aren't they in the middle of exams right now?
