VCU Open: Michigan Location

Post by itsthatoneguy »

Michigan Academic Competitions, in collaboration with Detroit Catholic Central's Academic Team, would like to announce that the Michigan mirrors of VCU Open and VCU Sunday will take place on August 7-8. Both tournaments will NOT take place at U of M in Ann Arbor, but rather at Detroit Catholic Central High School in Novi, MI, located ~30 miles from Ann Arbor. I will be serving as the TD.

Entry fees and discounts TBD.

If you would like to register for this site, please email [email protected]

Expressing interest. Teammates needed. I've never played a VCU Open, so I don't really have an idea of what I have to offer to potential teammates.

I am interested, in part because I could take the double-secret (and highly relaxing) back way to get from Lansing at least to Howell.

I will try to round up a few fellow travelers to form a team for at least one, if not both, of the competition dates.

Fantastic, this tournament just got a few minutes closer to me and there won't be any having to drive around and find parking in goddamn Ann Arbor. Looks like I'll be going to and playing horribly at this tournament.

Park on side streets just north of campus (Ann, Catherine, Lawrence, Ingalls, Thayer, etc.). You can usually find spots there.

I see you have us in the field for one or two already. That's probably going to happen, just let me know when you can about discounts for reading/scoring or whatever on saturday. We'll take whatever we can get.

I am currently trying to find a way to play this with some manner of misfits be it college players or high school players from my team this year. So..I suppose I have "expressed interest."

I am a free agent for this. I am not that good, but I can bribe you with lodging (my parents house, though it will probably be a couch), and picking you up from the airport.

Edit: I need someone to vouch for you that you are not an axe murderer (it is my parents house after all). If you are an axe murderer, do not bother asking, my (not so) little brother is a mediocre high school quiz bowl player turned college rugby player.

I also applaud U of M on holding the tournament at DCC, as it is 20 minutes from my house, as opposed to the 21 minutes Mason Hall is (although I swear I made it in 12 minutes that one time).

The plan as of now is for a group of Ohio high school players to come up for the Sunday portion. So, I guess we (me speaking for them) are expressing interest. I would say the odds are near 100% that at least some group of them will be coming.

You can put my team down as definite for VCU Open. For Sunday I'm not sure...I'd like to see some more college teams show up, obviously we don't want to play against a field of all HS teams.

Hey:

One of my relatives works for the hotel industry, so I can get a discount on a hotel room for Friday and Saturday nights (like $50-$60 TOTAL for both nights, so that's really cheap with multiple folks). If 1-3 people whose schedule matches this would like to share a room, please let me know.
