Is anybody else concerned...

Post by Kyle »

...that the website for submitting SCT host bids asks whether you can provide t-shirts to the participating teams, but contains no space whatsoever to ask whether the tournament director has previous experience running a tournament?

By the way, I just submitted a bid in ACUI Region 1, so unless Harvard, MIT, Yale, or Brown gets its act together to submit a competing bid, you should probably start checking into airfares soon.

1. We certainly expect to have two hosts in Region 1, one in Europe and one in North America.

2. Of course NAQT will take prior TD experience into account when evaluating SCT bids.

I'm joking about the Region 1 thing, but why isn't that on the form? You ask about t-shirts, orange juice, complimentary bags (what's a complimentary bag?)...but not "do you have any idea what you're doing?"

"Previous td experience" is easy for us to find out without asking hosts to fill out another field... because we have a large database of previous tournament directors.

I might guess that self-reporting, particularly from really inexperienced people, would have to be taken with a grain of salt, anyway.

Well, sure--but why do we care about t-shirts at all?

Because imagine how much less offensive photos of golfers like Jim Daly would be with more T-shirts in the world.

Speaking of which, is there any plan to implement the "co-TD" system that was suggested after SCT last year?

The details have not yet been worked out, but we will strongly encourage ACUI hosts and circuit personnel to work closely together.

The ACUI Region 8 shirts we got from UIC were totally sweet. Of course everything ended up being run well, but if things had been a disaster the shirts would have pretty much made up for it anyway.

Even the shirts were a disaster. I don't want a size L nightie. It was an ok shirt, but large is your smallest size when I get there early? Anyways, I'll take a 3XL shirt or preferably no shirt and 10 bucks off the tourney fee if the tournament can be run well, and Northwestern doesn't have to listen to the same moderator all day in the same room.

Yeah, I don't think mediums are getting many takers, generally speaking.
