Summer tournaments at UTC

Post by Your Genial Quizmaster »

Ladies & gentlemen,

We are getting lots of questions about our planned summer tournaments, and understandably so – it’s getting close to the wire for the original proposed date for the NAQT HS Mirror. But there has been a lot going on behind the scenes. Here’s an update.

By popular demand and logistical necessity, the NAQT HS NCT Mirror will be held on July 10, not in late June as originally planned. Fees will be $80 per team.

Also by popular demand, we are trying to move the CULT mirror trash tournament (Summer Camp) to Sat., June 26. This is tentative at the moment, pending university confirmation of the rooms. Fees will be $80 per team.

The CULT tournament set is large enough that *if* there were enough takers, we could use some remaining packets and hold a second, shorter trash tournament on July 11.

Please let us know ([email protected]) of your interest in bringing a team to any or all of the above tournaments. Thanks.

You might want to reconsider. The oil might get there soon... And Panama City sucks. Go to Pensacola Beach if anything ;D.

If I can convince my dad to drive from OKC to Chattanooga, I'll be more than happy to come over for some quizbowl fun. If so, we'll be known as Sundberg Christian Ministries, Inc. Thanks for the notice -- I wasn't sure when your mirror was, but I'm itching to get back behind a buzzer.

Put down "Lee Henry and Co." as a team for the HSNCT mirror. It is possible that there will be no "Co." Either way, I should be there ready to play.

My status for this has been changed to questionable due to a confusing situation involving my Chemistry labs and the fact they are 30% of my final grade for the class and I can't afford to miss them. I should know definitely by tomorrow whether I will/will not be coming and if I can attend I will have a team name and preliminary roster

Taylor Hyatt and I will definitely be there as a two-man team. We will announce the name of our team after some conferring.

Copy and paste from an email I just sent out.

will be having a trash tournament this saturday the 26th. Right now we only have a couple of teams (3 maybe 4) so if anyone wants to play come on down. We will meet in Holt 124 I will have a time for you guys by Friday.

Also we will have the NAQT mirror on July 10th and another day of trash on the 11th. So we will need people to work and play then as well.

See you guys Saturday.

A team of other recent graduates of Southside and me will be coming to the HSNCT mirror and the next day's CULT rounds.
On that note, how many of the CULT rounds will be played on July 11?

We've had several other inquiries, but here's the field as I have it so far for Saturday's mirror:

Wes Austin et al. (UGA?)
Glenn Allen Bobo et al.
Ben Cole et al. (Southside alums)
Lee Henry et al.
Seth Kendall
Scotti Whitmire et al. (UT alums)
Stan Young et al. (Chipola)

There may also be a house team, depending on how many readers we need.

If you're not on this list but ought to be, please let us know at [email protected]. Also, please let us know if you're playing trash on Sunday. Thanks.

In addition to all the relevant information about arriving at the tournament, could you include information about wireless internet access at UTC (if it's available) in the informational email?

Sorry -- I thought I'd already posted all that. (Senility Now!)

Registration for Saturday will begin at 9:30 AM in Holt 124; tournament will start at 10:00. For Sunday, registration will start at 8:30, tournament will allegedly start at 9.

As for wireless access, I know it exists but I don't know the details -- I got my first laptop right after I finished my certificate program, so I haven't had occasion to use it. I'll defer to one of the young whippersnappers on the team.
