I'm bringing a team if there is room and we have room for one. I'd like to think we're good at trash but I'm sure we'll get destroyed by this field.

EDIT: We've found a fourth that I know well and has trash experience and is the President of a question writing company.

I just updated the field and there are 13 teams fully registered and enough to shake out approx. three more, so I'll cap the field at 16 teams. As it stands, because the room situation is a little touch and go, we may only have 7 rooms, so 16 is already taking a bit of a chance given the room (and staffing) situation. I'm pretty confident there's at least one room that will be available for most of the day that we can't officially get, which will take us up to 8.

Also, I've had a few questions about when this will end. I'm a little hesitant to answer just because the rooms etc. are so in flux, but I think last year this tournament ended between 5 and 6 (with no need for a final). Assuming there are no disasters, I can't imagine this lasting past 7.

So finish coalescing people into teams and email me. If you want to staff, you get a free lunch.

I am not sure the exact schedule for all the side tournaments, but if this does not conflict with either the lit or fine arts tournaments then I can staff.

You already are part of a registered team and I'm not sure who you're referring to with the second part. Is this the same team?

Also, note that because Auroni Gupta is awesome, this tournament will have a decent number of video game tossups, including some that aren't on individual factions from Alpha Centauri or on "Motorstorm," the free game that came with my PS3.

Due to confusion on my part about when this tournament was happening, I thought I wouldn't be able to go, but now I want to, so if there's a spot on any teams left for me to take, I'll take it. If not, I'm perfectly willing to staff.

If I'm doing my figurin' correctly, we can still run 18 teams in 8 real rooms, just with a bye in each bracket. I'd rather have a bye that turn teams away, so the cap is now 18. Hopefully UIC comes through and we can bracket so a bye isn't necessary.

In terms of logistics, I'd like to start registration at 8:30 (location TBA). Teams will go to rooms at 9 and games will start at 9:15 no matter what.

Also, I've been sort of assuming there will be tons of buzzers floating around because it's CO weekend, but we should probably count. I know Chicago has 1 that works - what other buzzers will be there?

With regards to Carbery, he's leaving our team and striking out on his own, and Brad is simply leaving our team since he apparently is busy having a baby or whatever. So I guess Peterson and I are looking for two more? Anybody who knows any sports would be great to have, but we'll take anyone who will be fun to play with.

Okay, I don't understand what the hell is going on with that entire team, so here's what I'm going to propose: that spot in the field is going to be taken by the OSU+Brendan Byrne team, then I'm going to suggest Matt Laird and Greg Peterson round out the Bernadette/Charlie/Ian Eppler team. That will make the team 5 people, so they'll get some sort of discounted entry. That also gives us the 18 teams that make things nice to work with. (6-6-6 RR, then 6-6-6 cross-bracket RR then a 2 packets for a final , or if we can't fit that in the rooms 9-9 RR then final).

What I think is going on: Fischer has dropped out. Carbery is under the impression that he has left Laird/Peterson and formed his own team including, I think, Jeff Geringer. Laird and I are still intending to play, possibly in some sort of merger with OSU.

If 20 teams is a manageable number, then OSU/Byrne and Carbery's team would bring the field to 20 with Laird and I in search of two teammates but still on our own team... we could pick up Westbrook and Nalin, if they still want to play.

If 20's not OK, then see my previous post, but I think Carbery is under the impression that a team separate from the Laird/Peterson team is currently registered.

I'm just posting here to further encourage the whole idea of people posting in this thread to inform everyone of how many buzzer systems people are bringing. This is specifically for people who will be playing/staffing/present in both CO Trash in CO Fine Arts, the tournament that I'm organizing. It'll take place right after CO Trash. Thread here, if you need it:

Ok, the Laird team is now Laird, Peterson, Warren Frost-Grabner, and (probably) Tom Egan.
I guess this is team #19 and Carbery's is #20, if OSU has officially taken our spot in the field.

Is this a joke? Has it fallen to me to explain this? When you register for a tournament you say "hey I'm going to play the tournament, and these are the people I'm playing with." Then you play the tournament. With those people. If there are changes that need to be made, that's fine, things happen. But keep the TD abreast of the situation. Pay attention to when the field is filling up. Don't attempt to register making coy allusions to your potential teammates. All of these things strike me as obvious, but apparently not universally. God knows I wish everyone could play this tournament since it means more money for me, but I'm already counting on 1 more room than we have assigned to us... and that includes rooms in buildings that are a block away! Yet more and more people keep signing up to play. I'm flattered you all want to play, but it's like rats jumping onto a sinking ship!

So no, 20 teams doesn't work. Unless some more rooms materialize, this tournament will be 18 teams. Period. Maybe Saturday will prove that squatting in Harper isn't a problem. In fact, people can come by the busload on Sunday morning and see what happens - I'll make schedules for 18, 20, and 21 teams, just in case. But as it stands there will be 18 teams. And I can also tell you that BEN CARBERY'S TEAM O' MYSTERY will not be playing this tournament since I still have never received any email from them registering, let alone them even telling me explicitly who is on their team.

I'm a solutions oriented guy though, so here's one suggestion. Illinois people: would you like to hold a mirror of this set later for the people who can't play this site? It seems there's at least a dozen or so people interested who might not make it into the main field, but if you want to see the set I'm certainly amenable to some kind of arrangement.

If that doesn't work out, here's the situation: Bernadette, Charlie and Ian are currently in the field and playing with 3 people: they should take on 1 free agent no matter what because short-handed teams will not be allowed given how many people want to play this. I would much prefer they take on a free agent from the set of OSU+Brendan+Greg+Matt Laird group who are all trying to get into this tournament like the Three Stooges get through a door. Then the rest can play as a group of 5. Or maybe they can't because 8 more people and 3 more teams will sign up. Frankly, I don't care that much because hopefully it will work itself out by Sunday morning, or if it doesn't I will make arbitrary decisions to get the field down to 18 because that's the largest I feel comfortable with unless more rooms (and staffers) become available.

Or you could just let Greg and I keep our spot that we registered for many months in advance, playing with the two new people that Greg described above. This is not unlike what Steven Canning's team just did. Greg and I never asked to be removed from the field and we never said we weren't going to fill our remaining roster spots.

Further adding to the hilarity is a "rumor" I have heard that Joe Hansen is actually the fourth on Bernadette, Charlie, and Ian's team.

So when we lost Carbery and Fischer, we said we'd like to add Egan and Frost-Grabner. That's all. We had a spot in the field, and I don't see why that spot - now the eighteenth spot - should be taken from us.

I pretty likely will, but I'd be less annoyed about having to do it if it didn't mean I was turning away people that are (1) on teams that are an active part of the college circuit, (2) coming into town from many hours away and (3) playing the academic tournament that's the actual point of CO weekend. I reiterate that I would prefer it if you and Greg would team with some subset of the OSU+Brendan people rather than draft people at the last second because they happen to live 30 minutes away; you don't have to and I guess I don't particularly expect my irritation to matter to you, but there you go.

By the way, since Ike is crowing in the other thread, I'll announce the questions for this have been done for a couple days now, minus a couple bonuses I might need to write because I can't appropriately use an answer matrix.

I've been talking to OSU by email for a while now - I've already offered to take on two of their players, but Jacob was under the impression that another spot in the field would open up.

What I said, Greg, was that with 17 other full squads, one of them might need to pick up a player from this monstrous 18th team of ours. It is hardly unknown for trash teams to fall apart mere days before a tournament.

OK, then I guess we'll play it by ear.

Would someone be willing to check this for errors? I think everything looks right, but better safe than sorry.

Team 18 is now Peterson/Laird/Sankaran/Sekerak/Byrne, with Durst staffing.

Awesome, thank you very much. I'm glad this worked out in (by my reckoning at least) the best way. Because this team was forced together by my heavy hand and has 5 people, I'll let you play for $15 per person.

That means of the schedules I made above, Option C is not going to happen; if we have enough rooms we'll do A (which is better since it gives some bracketed playoffs and has no byes) but we might have to settle for schedule B.

What time Sunday? Should people not playing today expect 8-8:30 @ Harper, as with CO proper?

Edit: with the caveat that going late Saturday may also affect Sunday's start?

I'm sorry to say this but Nalin or any other free agents, would you be interested in joining my team? I learned today that Jon and Sam both dropped. I apologize to Marnold and Charles for this. Message me if you want to join our team.
