Announcement: EFT 5 at Brown NEW DATE (10/2/10)
I am pleased to announce that the fifth incarnation of the Early Fall Tournament will be held on October 2nd at Brown University. We originally announced this mirror as taking place on the 16th, but due to a large debate tournament eating up all the classrooms that day, we have moved it forward two weeks. Brown and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign have decided to merge EFT and MCMNT into one tournament this year. The tournament will be written by assorted members of both clubs, plus Brown alumnus Eric Mukherjee. Ike Jose of Illinois will oversee the editing process. This will be a novice-difficulty tournament aimed at new players, similar to past incarnations of EFT and ACF Fall.
If you plan on attending the Brown mirror, please email me at Aaron_Rosenberg AT brown DOT edu with the number of teams, staffers, and buzzers you expect to bring. Assuming we obtain the appropriate space, we will be able to accommodate up to 30 teams like last year.
The fee breakdown is:
Fee schedule:
Base fee: $100 per team
Buzzer discount: -$5 each
Staff discount: -$10 each
Travel discount: -$10 for every 200 miles traveled
Brown and Illinois are looking to host mirror sites across the country, so if you're interested, please contact both me and Ike (sephiroth0kouko AT gmail DOT com).
We hope to see you there!
EDIT: List of Mirror Sites and TDs so far:
Midwest - UIUC - Ike Jose
Southeast - Georgia Tech - Farrah Bilimoria
California - Claremont - Alejandro Lopez-Lago
South Plains - somewhere in Texas - Chris Romero
Mid-Atlantic - VCU - Cody Voight
NOTE This date change has no effect on the other mirrors; we can create a restricted-access discussion forum to hold all discussion threads until all mirrors are done.

Given the debate over whether EFT was actually close to ACF Fall difficulty this past season, will EFT again be "hard questions on easy answers" or instead "genuinely easy questions on easy answers?"Gypsy punk wrote:This will be a novice-difficulty tournament aimed at new players, similar to past incarnations of EFT and ACF Fall.

Our goal is somewhere between the two (i.e. closer to fall 2008 than 2009).Charbroil wrote:Given the debate over whether EFT was actually close to ACF Fall difficulty this past season, will EFT again be "hard questions on easy answers" or instead "genuinely easy questions on easy answers?"

Actually, the closest mirror to Louisville is probably UIUC.Church51907 wrote:Are there any plans for mirrors of this tournament?

We are still seeking mirrors for the following locations:
Pacific Northwest
Eastern Canada
Upper Midwest??
And any other major regions I left off this list.

Given that UIUC's already turning teams away, has there been any progress on/is there any hope of creating another Midwestern mirror of EFT?Gypsy punk wrote:We are still seeking mirrors for the following locations:

This is still pretty tentative, but there has been talk of a slightly delayed mirror of EFT in the Minnesota area.

Do you think we can get a field update for this? Just interested in who's playing besides us...

Seconding the desire for a field update. Also wondering, if it isn't too intrusive, how the set is shaping up (progress? are there powers? intended number of packets?)

14 Rounds. We are trying to power mark the set. The set is shaping up nicely from Illinois's end, and from what I gather the Brown end is going smoothly. Sorry for the delayed response.

FYI, we'll have one buzzer, which will be handcuffed to Eric's wrist for the duration of the tournament.

Two teams (possibly more if more than two people decide that hey they want to play AFTER ALL but we have seven persons interested) and two staff (three if Sam comes).

Just a notice that, as in years past, an afterparty will be held at some point after the tournament (probably after a dinner), and quizbowlers all are welcome to attend.
