EFT Mirror at Georgia Tech 10/23/2010

Post by Marble-faced Bristle Tyrant »

Georgia Tech will be hosting a mirror of the Early Fall Tournament, a novice-level tournament written and edited by Brown and UIUC players (for more info, see the original thread).

Interested teams should email me at fbilimoria3 at gatech dot edu with number of teams, staffers, buzzers, and any other pertinent information. I hope that we get around the same turnout we had for ACF Fall last year (~20 teams), but this is only doable with workers from outside our club. Freelance moderators are also quite welcome to participate. (Edit 8/4: Also, if you bring, say, a five-man team, we would very much love it and give you a staffer discount if your fourth and fifth players alternate playing and staffing.)

Edit 8/2: Teams interested in attending with any major preferences regarding the date (October 23 and 30 are our top choices, with Oct 2 as our third choice) should indicate so in the thread or email me (fbilimoria3 at gatech dot edu). We will host on the date on which the most teams can attend, so if you have any scheduling issues, do speak up as soon as possible. I understand that most schools haven't started the semester yet, so we'll wait until early September to finalize the date. Until then, I won't edit the date in the subject line. Yeah, this is still on Oct 23.

Edit 8/11: Open and solo teams are welcome, so long as open teams are novice-level-appropriate (no superteams).

Edit 8/25: Fees and discounts

$100 base fee per team

Discounts:
$5 per buzzer set (maximum of two for the discount, though you are welcome to bring more)
$10 per staffer
$10 per 200 miles traveled (shortest distance given by Google Maps)
$30 if high school
$10 per extra team
$40 if solo team
$30 if two-person team

Those last two only apply if you are sending one team; if your second team is only one or two people, you get the extra team discount. The travel discount applies to all teams coming from a school.

Edit 10/12: Location and parking: We are hosting this tournament in the Howey building, the same place as last year's ACF Fall. In front of Howey and is the State Street visitor lot, ostensibly $1.25 an hour, but we've had visiting teams park there with no trouble that I know of. To get to Howey and the State St. lot:

Northbound on I-75/I-85 (Using Exit 250):

* Take Exit 250, 10th Street.
* Turn left (West) onto 10th Street.
* Turn left (South) onto State Street.
* Continue State Street until it intersects with Ferst Drive (at stop sign). The State Street Visitor Parking Lot is straight ahead.

Southbound on I-75 (Using Exit 250):

* Take Exit 250, 10th/14th Streets.
* Travel to 10th Street and turn right (West).
* Turn left (South) onto State Street. State Street intersects with Ferst Drive (at stop sign). The State Street Visitor Parking Lot is straight ahead.

Southbound on I-85 (Using Exit 84):

* Take Exit 84, 17th/14th/10th Streets.
* Travel to 10th Street.
* Turn right (West) onto 10th Street.
* Turn left (South) onto State Street. State Street intersects with Ferst Drive (at stop sign). The State Street Visitor Parking Lot is straight ahead.

Modified directions from the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
If you plan on approaching or leaving campus from Fifth Street (different from the directions I've provided), be warned that there will be an event called Taste of Atlanta in Tech Square (5th and Spring). I don't know if the roads will be blocked or if it'll be really crowded, so I really don't know whether teams using those roads will be hindered. I'm also not sure if Tech Square's restaurants will be closed off to non-participants (although I do note that Moe's, located in Tech Square, isn't on the list of participating restaurants).

There are also free parking options, although they require more walking: the Student Center lot and metered parking in the academic areas.

Here is a map (PDF) with the aforementioned visitor parking areas marked in green.
Area 4: State St. lot
Area 2: Student Center lot
M: metered parking outside the Student Center and Campus Recreation Center (both on Ferst Dr.) and next to the Student Center parking deck marked W02 on the map.

We'll meet in lecture hall 1 (L1). Enter the building from the Atlantic Drive entrance, and it is the one on the very left. We plan to start at 9:00 AM.

I won't send anything official yet as we don't start back until August 23rd, but we're going to try to make an effort to attend EFT this year. I'll have a talk with my teammates when we start back and then send something official.

We have changed the date to October 30 to accommodate any high school teams that wish to attend both Walton's tournament and EFT.

I was planning on bringing one high school team if it had been on Oct 2nd but now that it has changed to Oct 30th, we can't attend Hoover has their tournament on that date. What about the middle of the month?

Yeah the 2nd would've been a better date for us too, I'm not too sure we can come on the 30th.

October 9 and 16 are both home football game days; arranging parking on those days would be a nightmare. Also, the GATA fall tournament is the 16th. How is the 23rd for you guys?

Valencia is very likely to send two teams if this is played on October 23. We wouldn't be able to make it on the 30th, though. I'll send the info along to the Florida CC coaches who don't see this board.

Chattahoochee will most likely be at this with 1 team. The 23rd or the 30th makes little difference to us. If I had to pick, I would pick the 23rd. Thanks!

I presume you mean information like the building and parking, which we'll probably send out, as well as add here, once we actually sort out those details and get more confirmed teams and emails. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You can more than likely go ahead and put us down for 1 team. Whoever is on that team however, remains undecided. It will be me and at least one other person with possibilities of a couple more once we start back. I'd say we could bring 3 or 4 buzzers sets if you'd like as well.

You're welcome to join our team, as of now it's just Anthony and myself. This also assumes that the people at Georgia Tech would allow such an occurrence

EDIT: Also, since it is more than likely just going to be 2 people for our team, will there be any shorthanded team discounts? If not it's really no big deal I just thought I'd ask

I just recently got the mirror fees from Aaron, so we'll work out our fees and discounts soon (within the next couple days, I'm thinking). We'll look into discounts for small teams.

I also added a note in the original post about open and solo teams for any other interested parties.

Our semester starts tomorrow, so we'll be able to sort out things like what building we'll be using soon enough. I do apologize about not taking care of the fees and discounts yet; things have been hectic on my end with packing and moving back on campus.

Looks like this will in fact be held on the 23rd, though.

Okay, I've finally added the fees and discounts to the original post. Also, if I have your team listed under "Interested", and you wish to go into the confirmed list, post in this thread or email me. If you haven't said how many, if any, buzzers and/or staffers you're bringing, you should tell me as soon as possible. Lastly, based on both the confirmed and interested lists, we're looking at about 14 teams. We'd love to see some more sign up, so do contact me if you are interested in attending.

We are considering changing the date to October 30 thanks to no one noticing until last week that this tournament had been scheduled for the same date. I need teams that haven't done so to respond to my email about this within the next few days.

Also, Robert Slade, is your email still the hotmail account we have from last year?

Please don't. Besides there hasn't been any significant field overlap between the current teams in the field has their with the exception of maybe Alabama or USC?

Alabama went last year, and I haven't heard from them about this year. Currently, half of our tournament's interested schools (and all of the ones that have gotten back to me so far) have stated that they won't be going to Southeastern if I change EFT's date, and if that trend continues I won't see any reason to change the date. So reply to my email, people!

Yes, that email address is still in current. Either date works for me.

I hate to do this but due to a sudden and unavoidable commitment, DAR will not be able to attend after all.
Sorry, we were looking forward to this

To update on the Snead State situation, we will still be coming as long as my car doesn't die or something (with a possible full team!! :party: :party:) , assuming this tournament is still on the 23rd which I think is true seeing as how the topic has not changed.

Millsaps will be sending 1 team, along with 1 buzzer set. We may also be bringing 1 scorekeeper/moderator (whichever you need).
