The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, will be hosting a mirror of ACF sponsored Early Autumn Collegiate Novice Tournament on Saturday, September 25 2010. The rounds will be held in the University's Coffman Memorial Union. The event will start at 10:00 AM. Each team will be guaranteed at least seven rounds, and there will be finals as necessary to determine the champions.

Please email Eliza Grames at suacb-at-umn-punto-edu and also Gaurav Kandlikar at gaurav-dot-kandlikar-at-gmail-punto-com to register or if you have any questions.

Fee Structure
Base fee: $15/player [$60 for a 4 person team]
$5 off the base fee for schools per working buzzer system provided
$10 off the base fee for schools per moderator used [needs to be approved]
$10 off the base fee for schools for each 100 miles travelled
Minimum fee: $5/player

Eligibility Rules
The following are the eligibility rules for this, as per the editors.

1. All ACF eligibility rules apply, except when they contradict the rules below.
2. This is a tournament for introducing collegiate novices to quizbowl. Consequently, no high school teams or players are eligible.
3. Anyone (who does not break Rules 1 or 2) who has never played quizbowl before is automatically eligible. Other academic competition does not count as quizbowl for this rule.
4. Players meeting one or more of the following criteria must apply to the head editor for special permission to play:
i. If you have already completed your second year of college (calculated from time in college, not credits).
ii. If you were ever on a playoff team at NAQT HSNCT or PACE NSC.
iii. If you have ever scored at least 30 points per game at any college tournament.
iv. If you have ever won any college tournament.
5. Anyone who does not fall into any of the four categories listed in Rule 4 is automatically eligible to play.

Thanks,

Hey!

With just a few days left to go to this tournament, here is the field we have right now:

Carleton (3)
St. Thomas (1)
Minnesota (3)

I'll be sending out a more detailed message to teams sometime later in the week, but for now, know that this will be taking place in Coffman Memorial Union, and the starting time, as announced, will be 10 AM.

Thanks,

Final stats have been posted.

Thanks to all who came. There were some excellent games in our room, and I heard general praise for all players from other moderators. Congrats to MN A and St. Thomas, and to all the scorers.

EDIT: Some more details

MN A beat St. Thomas in a one game final 355-230. In case anyone was wondering, we did have each teams play 7 rounds, in accordance with the rules. However, one of those rounds was against a pseudo-exhibition team consisting of, at various times, James Heaney of St. Thomas and Eliza Grames and Robin Heinonen of Minnesota, but it wasn't entered into the official stats.
