I'm kinda disappointed this couldn't get attached to another tournament, as that would make going to be around for this much more likely.

If this is an open tournament and no Canada mirror, I may consider taking another trip down for this. The last trip to VCU for CULT was fantastic and I rather enjoyed your part of the country.

I'm also generally a fan of running events like this on the buddy system, but what would we use? The fall schedule is already even sparser than normal and MO is presumably unlikely to be ready by the 30th (though if it were, we'd gladly mirror it then).I'm kinda disappointed this couldn't get attached to another tournament, as that would make going to be around for this much more likely.

This is open, but it looks like McMaster's going to host a Canadian mirror, if that's easier for you.adosreme wrote:If this is an open tournament and no Canada mirror, I may consider taking another trip down for this. DATE CHANGE: TERP (Maryland Fall Trash) 10/31/10
After consulting with the teams who have already registered, we will be moving the tournament date at the main site back one day to Sunday, October 31st. This will have no direct effect on any mirrors.
Also, we are interested in hiring a freelance writer for sports, particularly baseball, pro basketball, and the "Other Sports" distribution. If you are interested in contributing, please contact me at [email protected].

Mostly because of the UMD football game scheduled for the 30th. But if it frees up people to go keep fear alive on the Mall, so much the better.

Re: DATE CHANGE: TERP (Maryland Fall Trash) 10/31/10
I just realized that I never commented on the date change. This won't be a problem for us - we're still planning to send 2-3 teams, perhaps leaning more towards 3 teams than 2.
Per the lack of trash tournaments on the schedule this semester, I'm particularly looking forward to this, and I know that a bunch of other people in the club here are too.

High schoolers are welcome to play. How many people were you expecting on your team? If you're paying out of pocket, shoot me an email and we can work out something, but I'd also encourage you to look into combining with free agents to make a full team-- you can take a look at the field list for the list of free agents.
Speaking of which, if you're planning on being a free agent and can let me know, I can put you up on the field list and you can work on finding other people sooner rather than later.

Hey,
I'm on a nascent team looking for a couple players who know video games, comics, trashy movies, and pre-1990 TV, and don't mind losing many games.
Email me at [email protected] if interested.

This tournament will now definitely be running Mike's video game tournament, to begin following completion of TERP rounds. I think it's likely some members of the Maryland team and some other people will be paying homage to the best pseudo-event ever (JECHT 2 run in a conference room of Eric Mukherjee's apartment building), by ordering great quantities of Chinese food to be consumed as we play the event. If you're interested in getting in on this, email me.

Re: DATE CHANGE: TERP (Maryland Fall Trash) 10/31/10
The tournament finished up at the mainsite this afternoon, with VCU (Matt, George, Cody, and Sean) defeating Penn (Sid, Jason, Joe, and Delano) in the second game of an advantaged final. Stats are here: http://results.scobo.net/SQBS.aspx?org= ... =standings
We're hoping to mirror this tournament one final time this month, so I'd like to ask that nobody discuss the content of the questions in the public forum. Hopefully a private thread will be up shortly-- I am very excited and interested to hear everyone's feedback, since this was my first time editing a tournament.
Speaking of which-- some massive thanks are in order. I want to thank Paul Marchsteiner, for his herculean question-writing effort throughout the entire writing process and for the many hours he put in helping to edit as the tournament got closer; Jeff Amoros, for his massive contributions and for reviewing the set; and of course the inimitable Chris Ray, without whose writing assistance and guidance you guys who came today would have been attending the Harry Potter tournament (with a Taylor Swift subdistribution) three months early. Also I'd like to thank our other writers: Jeremy Eaton, Margo Kirzner, Jack Kennedy, Monica Remmers, Isaac Hirsch, Gary Weiser, Ozzie Fallick, and SteveJon Guth, with a special contribution from Shantanu Jha.
Again, I'll post as soon as there's a thread in which to discuss the tournament, and I hope you guys can give me feedback. Thanks!

Just as a note, "Henry" on our team was Neeraj playing under the pseudonym "Henry Groman." (no typo.)

I enjoyed the brisk pace, more than competent moderating, quick display of stats, and existence of prizes at this tournament (one stray comic book notwithstanding). I hope future Maryland events are run very much like this one.
Questions were systematically good with 1-2 clunkers per round that will be discussed when the forum for that opens up.
