I would love to play this, but would it by any chance be possible to have it a week earlier? It's just, you know, TERP is currently scheduled for the same day...

EDIT: grammar is difficult

Isn't this the day of the McMaster TERP mirror? Unless that tournament's been moved to the ACF Fall weekend, of course.

It *hopefully* won't end up the same date (most of the TERP mirror posts are asking that it be moved back a week-or of course your suggestion Huma is a good one), but at the end of the day people may get a choice about attending an academic or trash tournament (although we certainly didn't intend to start that kind of Canadian qb kulturkampf). In the event that the tournaments will conflict, I will just say:
1) Our tournament is cheaper
2) Our moderators are better looking*
3) EFT is a sweet tournament to help with academic stuff, like ACF Fall, being held at McMaster

*Except where Jordan Palmer is staffing.

Well, if this ends up not being on the same day as TERP, I will probably play. Will mixed teams be allowed?

I'd definitely rather play EFT than some random TRASH tournament. But that's just because I suck at TRASH. However, I would be down for either tournament, but I think EFT's a better investment in the long-run, as prep for ACF Fall and others, as has been mentioned.

"Trash" tournament. TRASH has nothing to do with TERP.

Well, I won't say that this isn't a little disappointing.

If I may ask a couple of questions: 1) Why was UT not able to move the EFT date? and, 2) How large a field are you guys currently expecting for this?

My team is still going to TERP, but I would still like to play EFT. Could some sort of solo discount be arranged, perchance?

Yeah, is there no way that UT & McMaster can work out the date thing? It'd be a shame for two tournaments to be held on the same date in the same region that would reasonably detract from each other.

The wonderful world of wireless internet at U of T means that I am typing this message for the fourth time. Sigh.

It is a shame, and I won't pretend it isn't a disappointment. Sharing the date like this will probably mean fewer people to both tournaments. However, academic and trash tournaments are significantly different, and I think we can all agree that nobody should undergo either a trash or academic tournament Hobson's Choice just because it's the "only game in town." Choice is surely good (though admittedly not optimal here).

We are open to dialogue, discussion, and negotiation, but if "working things out" merely means disaccomodating people who ahve expressed interest or planned to attend EFT as a player or staff, then that won't happen. We want to make this work, but "our offer is that we are going to do exactly what we want and you should go along with it" is hardly a discussion or a tenable bargaining position. This doesn't mean we won't try to accomodate everyone, or find a mutually-beneficial solution (to that end, how many people would attend a tournament held on Hallowe'en Sunday?).

To answer the 3 questions,

1) Presumably the factors going into date holding are room bookings, staff +player plans and other considerations (such as time between announcement and tournament). These all seem to be fairly involved things to consider.

2) So far I have heard personally from 4 external schools (with 2 definites, whom I won't put in the middle of this discussion). There are other people canvassing schools (notably the HS community), and of course U of T will have at least one (probably several!) teams at EFT.

3) Solo discounts are a go. If the rest of your team is going to TERP, but you feel the need for EFT, talk to us-we can reduce your cost.

Just to put the change down at the bottom of the board: this tournament is now being held on Sunday, October 31st
Those wishing for trivia on both days can attend a mirror of TERP (Maryland trash tournament) at McMaster on the 30th.

Great to hear!
Field Update (? are teams which have indicated they are coming/probably coming, without confirming as of yet):

Michigan
Toronto (at least 2 teams)
Western Ontario
Waterloo
McMaster
Ottawa

Maybes (but unclear as to participation):
University of Toronto Schools (HS)

If people could give me numbers by the end of Thursday (Thursday night is fine), that would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Updated the field (several times)

Also, Michigan can bring 2 buzzers

Woburn has confirmed that they will not be sending a team to EFT due to difficulties in communication (i.e. people not showing up to Reach practices). However, the team captain has said he would be interested in playing on the team that I'm forming if there is a spot open.

Also, if there's a HS student on my team, does that mean we get a $10 discount :D ?

Sweet. Being a moderator is much appreciated, if you can come. The buzzers are also awesome to have.

Let's see who else is on your team. A bribe of $10 would go a long way to securing your $10 high school discount, Mr. University (for now) man.

It's actually going to be held at the Bahen Centre for Information for Information Technology, where last year's EFT was held.
Here's a map:
http://www.osm.utoronto.ca/map/f?p=110: ... 5990053097

The street address is 40 St. George Street (Toronto), and it is located just north west from the intersection of St. George and College Streets.

Information on parking can be found here:http://www.task.to/Events/BahenCentre40 ... fault.aspx (relatively unsatisfactory amount of info) and

http://www.toronto.com/colleges_univers ... ing/514810 (clicking on "Green P Parking" will show public parking lots near the location-none are too near though)

Please note, it is important to make sure you park correctly, as the meter men/maids are ruthless and bloodthirsty: one of our team got burned for $80 (two tickets in the same day) last year. I recommend trying to find a lot-street parking (which is available on St. George Street, as well as on College, one block north of the building) has a limit of 3 hours, and can be expensive.

If you are coming by subway, the building is pretty equidistant between Queen's Park (Bahen is to the west), Museum (Bahen is to the southwest), Spadina (Bahen is to the Southeast) and St. George (Bahen is south) subway stops.

At the building itself, we will have friendly robot-butlers to assist you to our rooms. If we cannot build robot butlers by Sunday, we will have signs and possibly human butlers.

Any questions, please contact myself at jordan "dot" palmer "at" utoronto "dot" ca or give me a call at (416) 666-7441.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

The Early Fall mirror was held today at U of T. Nothing caught fire, and nothing blew up (as far as we know).

When the dust settled, the University of Western Ontario, led by top scorer Will Nediger, emerged victorious. U of T "A" finished second, followed by the Jamie Cooper and Huma Zafar-led Waterloo team and the dynamic Michigan duo of Surya Sabhapathy and Phil Guan. Special mention should be given to Brendan McKendy for epically journeying vast distances to play as a one-man Ottawa team: he finished second in personal scoring. Complete stats will follow.

Special thanks to our readers (Aaron Dos Remedios, Rico Catibog, Miran Terzic and the rotating McMaster teammembers) and our fearless leader and organizer, Max Trower.

Hope to see you all again soon!
