Date Change: Connecticut Invitational II (now on April 2nd)

Post by rpirrie »

Greetings:

The date for Connecticut Invitational II has been changed to avoid conflict. It will now take place on APRIL 2ND, 2011 at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT.

This is an official NAQT event, featuring NAQT packet IS-100.

This is the second annual tournament with the purpose of promoting quiz bowl in the Southern New England area. New England teams are strongly encouraged to attend.
Registration will begin at 8:30 AM with the first round beginning at 9:30 AM. Though it is difficult to know exactly when the tournament will end, it is safe to assume sometime in the early evening around 5 or 6PM.

Fees for this tournament will be kept low to encourage participation. Registration information for the tournament is as follows:

Base fee, first team: $55
Additional teams: $50
Working buzzer system: -$10 each
Moderator: -$5 each

We would like to limit the field to 24 teams.

Copies of the questions are also available for $10 per set. Question orders sent by March 12th, 2011 will be filled the day of the tournament.

Please make checks payable to: E. O. Smith Academic Quiz Bowl. Please plan to pay on arrival at the tournament.

A copy of the registration form can be obtained by emailing the tournament director at [email protected]. You may also use this email for any questions you may have about the tournament.

For those concerned about transportation, a map and driving directions will be sent upon registering. Storrs, CT is located in the Northeastern part of the state, 40 minutes from Hartford, 1 hour, 45 minutes from Boston and 2 hours 45 minutes from New York City (it’s also 3 hours, 30 minutes from Fair Haven Vermont).

We hope that you will join us April 2nd, 2011 for Connecticut Invitational II at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT.

It's worth noting that this tournament conflicts with Livingston High Schools March Madness tournament... Both in packet and in date...

This is intentional. No teams from Connecticut/Rhode Island/Massachusetts attended last year's Livingston event.

Edit: Also, all six IS sets are already being heard in New York/New Jersey, so there isn't a plausible packet switch that would open this event to teams that would also go to Livingston.

This also conflicts with Yale's BHSAT tournament.

That would be a bigger problem! Let me see about fixing that.

Thanks Bob.

Greens Farms Academy will send one team -- maybe two. Loved it last year!

WE'RE SLASHING PRICES! WITH PRICES THIS LOW, WE MUST BE...(ahem)
In order to further interest in a tourney we'd like to establish as a spring time option in Southern New England, we are dropping the price for participation in CT INV II by $10. We are also raising the discount for moderators provided. The new pricing scheme looks like this:

Base fee, first team: $45
Additional teams: $40
Working buzzer system: -$10 each
Moderator: -$10 each

SO COME ON DOWN!

Hello--starting to fill in slots for the tourney. I have three schools committed and interest from several others—as I get more info I will create a list and continue to update it. Please be aware that I am very interested in establishing this as a quiz bowl tourney opportunity in a region that could use more quiz bowl tourney opportunities. I have therefore dropped the entry fees, as noted above. Look forward to seeing you all at CT INV II.

Looking to beef up the field for this tourney, so I'll let you know that I talked with the folks at NAQT, who said that this date works as a qualifier--the waitlist last year started up on April 6th, and even the schools on the waitlist got in. If the winner of this tourney wants to hang around for a bit after, we will help you sign up for nationals on the spot!

Hello--
Sorry to announce this, but I am cancelling the tourney. Not enough response. Lesson learned--announce earlier, hold the tourney earlier. Sorry to put a crimp in anybody's plans, and thanks for considering us. See you next year.
