Will this tournament be using computation tossups? What is the playoff format going to be?

I sent an email about this, but I never got a response. I'll try to figure out the answers to your questions at our next practice.

If you're the TD, might I suggest just cutting all the computational math questions yourself without anyone else's input? This shouldn't be a democratic thing.

It's the first part of your question which is the problem with this argument.

(In other words, I'm not the TD or head editor, at least as far as I'm aware--I just took the initiative to announce the tournament once we pinned down basic information)

Ransom Everglades has been (and to my knowledge still is) coached by Steve Frappier, who used to be at WUSTL as faculty advisor to the quiz bowl team. I think he's brought his school back to St. Louis most years since he left.

Yeah, there are not a lot of tournaments thrown in our area (Miami/the general Florida region), and we're lucky to have the resources to be able to fly out to other quality tournaments like WUHSAC and QUaC. And yes, Frap is still the coach there. Glad to see the national eye is still upon our school!

In another announcement that will no doubt delight everyone, we will no longer be using single elimination playoffs for WUHSAC this year, assuming we can find enough staff (which seems likely).

Also, we just passed our probable halfway point, and we already have teams from four states, so we hope that more will sign up soon!

Charles, in case you were unaware, Rock Bridge B being listed in your official communication here as being a part of the field, in a post that separately delineates teams that are "interested" and your wait list, means that Rock Bridge B has been officially told by you that they are registered. Going back after the fact and stripping them of their spot over a discrepancy in their months-old registration email, after they posted on a message board that they were for sure bringing two teams way back in November and were subsequently told, in effect, that they had both those teams registered, with you doing absolutely nothing to convey to us that their registration email needed to be resent, especially since the field subsequently filled and they are now suddenly out in the cold with no warning, is an amazingly unacceptable way to treat a team that was one of the first to try and sign up for your event, and which has to make travel plans for a 2 hour trip to St. Louis. Give Rock Bridge B back the spot you told them in this very post I'm quoting that they had been guaranteed.

I overlooked the message board post you mentioned, which was why I was under the impression Rock Bridge only registered one team. In any case, Clayton has graciously agreed to relinquish its third spot, so the situation has been resolved. My apologies for the confusion.

This is indeed correct (well, I won't comment about the last part). Congratulations to Carbondale for winning WUHSAC XIII, and to all four of our superplayoff teams for their fine performance! Thank you very much to everyone who joined us today for WUHSAC, especially our wonderful staff, and we hope you all had an enjoyable tournament!

Statistics will be forthcoming within the next couple of weeks.

WUHSAC Statistics - Preliminaries - Playoffs - Combined (Without SuperPlayoffs) - SuperPlayoffs

My apologies for the delay.

Note: Bonuses are out of total possible bonus points in each game rather than total points per bonus cycle to accomodate bouncebacks.

Why are the numbers of bonuses heard in the thousands?

Oh. Is there a reason for not tracking bouncebacks the proper way?

Mizzou does it this way and the person who did our playoff statistics chose to emulate them (and I standardized the remaining statistics with his); you'll have to ask Mizzou why they do it that way. I don't find it a particularly inferior way of accounting for bouncebacks if you don't have a particular need for Points Per Bounceback broken out of the overall Points Per Bonus statistic, and it's a bit quicker if your scoresheets don't have a dedicated bounceback column (as ours didn't). I don't think P/BB provides any particularly important information that P/B doesn't, so whereas I prefer the other method, this one isn't an issue either.
