Please only vote if you actually intend to play CO Guerilla history.

Has it been determined whether this is on Friday or Saturday?

The announcement I thought made it pretty clear it was Friday. I would greatly prefer this to be on Friday and not in the shitty post-CO spot.

I should be able to get to campus from the airport before 7, but I would appreciate some leniency there for those of us who can't make the earlier times. 5 PM is totally absurd.

Ideally I'd like some time to get a nice dinner and hang out. The later the better in my opinion.

I think 7 is more or less reasonable. It appears that there might be an influx of packets as every team playing has either submitted a packet or promised to produce a packet, so I wouldn't want to go too late.

As I have said to some of you privately, I favor 8 PM. I could be talked into 7:30 PM. We will have no bonuses and our moderators will all be pretty high quality.

My opinion is: I have absolutely no desire to play a tournament of 10+ rounds that starts at 8 PM or anything close to it and then try to be ready for CO the next day. We should start at 5 and be as diligent as possible about avoiding poodle-dee poodle-doo. I am coming to Chicago to play quizbowl tournaments; you can go out to eat on every other weekend this summer.

I don't think it's unreasonable to push it back to 6 or 7, since a number of people seem to be getting in in the afternoon/would have trouble making a 5 pm hard start. Maybe starting registration and setup around 5:30 or something would work, but I agree with Jerry that a number of people just aren't going to be there and ready to play rounds by then.

That said, I do agree with Matt that delaying things for non-practical reasons is a bad idea. To put this more directly: Bruce, do us a solid and don't try to change the start time of this tournament so you and a few other dudes can play Wiffle Ball for three hours instead of two.

I'm not postponing the start of the tournament so that I can play wiffle ball, to reciprocate Chris's directness I am offended by the suggestion that I might do such a thing. I'm in favor of a late start time because I am concerned about the ability of people to get to the tournament site any earlier. A large number of people have said in the poll that the earliest they can make it is 7 PM, and we know how Chicago transport and traffic is.

If it is 7, I would like a hard 7 PM start time, not "kinda starts at 7, so let's all get there and mill around until 8." I agree with Matt that I do not want to play all night and that any reason to push back the start time should be based on ability to get there.

Bruce,

I would be interested in getting to UChicago around 5 to play wiffleball. However, like others in this thread I also do not want Guerilla Doubles to run late into the night. Any wiffleball game should probably be wrapped up by 6:30, so that the tournament can begin as close to 7 as possible. If the tournament happens to be delayed due to Chicago traffic, so be it; but if everyone has arrived by 7, then we should put ourselves in position to start then.

I am also coming to Chicago to play tournaments, but I also have a job that I can't leave just because I want to play quizbowl. My restriction is not "I want to go out to eat," it's "this is the earliest reasonable ticket I could get." I don't think asking for a 7 PM start time is unreasonable.

See the other thread for announcements about location (7:00 is the time decided upon, for the record).
