The Wells/Scheeler team is actually full. I haven't heard from Joe in a few days but he sent me a (since-deleted) text with the names of two other players.

Ok thanks. Well now we are either stuck with option A (9 team RR with byes), or I could try to scrap some more DCC players into playing.

This is just assuming we have to be out of the building by 5:00, right?

The three free agents are Bryan, Surya, and Nalin. I haven't heard if Nalin is coming still. One of those free agents can play on Saul Hankin's team, and I'm okay if we need to make a few teams of five in order to make the schedule work. If more people suddenly join, we can have six teams.

Format: Double or triple round robin depending on interest, followed by shootout on leftover packets until interest wanes or we get kicked out.

We'll probably start at 9:00, registration starting at 8:30.
I am not coming anymore  wanted to though.

Here is the tournament format (assuming we have 9 teams):

RR with with byes, so each team will play 8 games in 9 rounds. After that, we can either do final(s), then run a draft or shootout on the remaining packets OR we can re-bracket into an upper 4 and a lower 5 and do 3-4 more rounds, then final(s). The first option will be 9 rounds + final(s) + shootout and the second option will be 12 rounds + final(s). There are 15 packets, so we definitely have enough rounds.

I personally prefer the first option, since it gets us done well before 5 and 12-14 rounds is a bit long IMO. Opinions? Again, I will have the final word on whether we are being kicked out early by tomorrow afternoon.

EDIT: That post was by Bryan, not me. My grammar is MUCH better.

I wholeheartedly prefer the second option. Even if we have to leave the building by 5, I'd prefer to play as many packets as possible until it's time to leave.

With lunch being delivered, and with an 8:30 start time, it still may be possible to be done by 5:00 PM under option 2.

Anytime you hear, it "may be possible to finish at" - discount the statement as spurious.

But anyway, if you think there's a good chance we're gonna be booted at 5, then I understand going with option 1...otherwise, I'll voice my preference for option 2.

Last update:

We now have 10 teams thanks to the addition of a DCC house team. We will run a 10 team RR (9 games), followed by a re-bracket into an upper division of 4 teams, a middle bracket of 4 teams, and a lower bracket of 2 teams (sorry lower bracket). Ties will be split by PPB. We then RR in those brackets (3 games). Finals to be played unless one team clears the field by two games.

We can stay in the building as long as needed. Registration starts at 7:45. Expect to start around 8:15-8:30. DON'T BE LATE.

Again, if you have any questions, please email me or call me at (248) 310-0634.

Also, I have been told that there will be powers.

It looks like the Schafer/Ditto/Smith team will need a free agent. I hope one exists. Sorry from the n00b (Do people still say that? People still say that.)

This is just a reminder that this is the only mirror of VCU Open running this weekend and that there will be further mirrors, so please do not discuss any specifics of the set in public or with anyone who did not play the set. We'll hopefully have a private forum up soon so that you can discuss the questions.

Thanks to everyone who showed and played. Sorry for all the general confusion and uncertainty when planning this tournament, but I think it ran pretty smoothly.

The VCU Open 2011 private forum is created. To apply to join, go to User Control Panel > Usergroups > Select "VCU Open/Trash discussion" and submit.

Please send me a PM with your name if your username isn't your actual name, so I know who you are. It appears you can click on usernames and see their signatures so this is unnecessary.

This is an instance where we're definitely looking for criticisms of individual questions. Any problems you point out will help improve the experience of the teams playing this at our other four mirrors.

For trash:

A team featuring Steve and Anne Traicoff and three other folks (including Kevin Olmstead) won the tournament by defeating LaferbrookFreeburnGarnett in the first game of an advantaged final. Stats...may come if I can piece together my incompetent scoresheets.
