Ottawa Quizbowl Tournament VII (11/26/2011)

The seventh Ottawa Quizbowl Tournament will be held at the University of Ottawa on November 26, 2011. Note that this is a change from the previously-mentioned date because of room reservation conflicts. This tournament will use an NAQT IS set without computation tossups and up to 1/1 of substituted Canadian content per round. We have enough clocks to use timed rounds, and will probably do so.

For lack of better organization in the current Ottawa club, I will be the main contact person for now, and can be reached at president -AT- onqba.ca . I will tentatively set a fee structure of:
$60 for the first team from a school
$50 for each additional team from a school
$10 discount for working buzzers

We only have 7 rooms available, so we reserve the right to limit the number of teams from a school if necessary. This event will be ONQBA-certified, for the benefit of teams that will seek discounts for the provincial tournament.

There are no teams signed up for this. I need at least 4 teams registered by November 15, or this tournament will be canceled.

Sorry about Ottawa's AWOL executive, but I don't think there were ever instructions for registrations to go to them. They should be sent to me at the email address in the first post.

The field now has 1 Merivale, 2 Colonel By, and 4 Lisgar teams, so the tournament is going ahead as planned. If it remains at 7 teams, we will have a full round-robin followed by 4/3 brackets (10 rounds plus any necessary finals).

The tournament will begin at 9 AM on the second floor of Brooks. We don't have a big meeting room, but there will be someone in room 205 to get everyone checked in. I believe that pizza will be for sale at lunch, but other dining options are available within a 10-minute walk of campus.

So I have a final field update of:
3-4 Lisgar, infinite buzzers
2 Colonel By, no buzzers
1 Merivale, 1 buzzer

Lisgar B defeated Lisgar A in a one-game final to take the tournament.

Lisgar A went 6-0 in prelims, followed by Lisgar B with 5-1. Lisgar B beat Lisgar A in playoffs, and both teams finished 8-1.

Merivale came third and Colonel By A came second. Alex Rochon of Lisgar A edged out Joe Su from the same team to win the individual scoring title.

Thanks to all the staff and the players who came out. Stats should be up whenever Brendan McKendy uploads them.
