OLEFIN is looking for mirrors!

Post by Smuttynose Island » Sat Sep 03, 2011 11:50 pm

I am pleased to announce that TJQB is looking for mirrors for its housewrite OLEFIN. This set was written and edited by members of the 2010-2011 team. We are specifically seeking Fall and Winter mirrors on or after October 9th, but will certainly consider Spring mirrors if asked. Anyone interested in getting an idea for the quality, although not the difficulty level, of OLEFIN should consult this set, which was produced by largely the same team.

SET DETAILS:

DIFFICULTY: Our target difficulty level is somewhere in between a regular HSAPQ set and last year's GSAC, which means that it should be appropriate for all teams. In order to meet this target difficulty this set has been comprehensively playtested by several college players.

DISTRIBUTION: OLEFIN's distribution is roughly as follows:

4/4 History (1/1 American, 1/1 Euro, 1/1 World, 1/1 British/Ancient)
4/4 Literature (1/1 American, 1/1 European, 1/1 British, 1/1 World/Ancient)
4/4 Science (1/1 Biology, 1/1 Chemistry, 1/1 Physics, 1/1 Other Science [Astronomy, Computer Science, Earth Science, and Math])
3/3 Fine Arts (1.33/1.33 Painting, 1/1 Music, 1/1 Other Art)
2/2 RMP (1/1 Myth, .5/.5 Philosophy, .5/.5 Religion)
1/1 Geography
1/1 SS (.58/.42 Econ, .33/.42 Psychology, .08/.16 Anthropology)
.5/.5 Current Events
.5/.5 Trash
1/1 History/Literature/Science Tiebreaker

If you have any questions regarding OLEFIN or are even slightly interested in mirroring this set, please send us an email at tjhsstquizbowl[AT]gmail[DOT]com

Thank you for considering our set,
Daniel Hothem
OLEFIN Editor

Unfortunately, the Central mirror of OLEFIN had to be cancelled. We are now looking for a mirror site in Georgia if anyone is interested in hosting this set there.

I'd like to announce that OLEFIN is now a 13 rather than 12 round tournament. This means that the distribution is no longer entirely accurate; however, the distrobution will closely follow what is in the initial post. If you wish for an accurate distribution, please email me at waddle2357[AT]gmail[DOT]com. Thank you.

I LOVED this set. The rest of my van of Rock Bridge players gave similar approval.

The Arcadia HS mirror has now been cancelled, so we're looking for another mirror site in SoCal. If teams are interested, OLEFIN is open for mirroring in the spring in addition to the fall and the winter. As Daniel said above, please email tjhsstquizbowl at gmail dot com if you're interested.

This set was mirrored by Rock Bridge and got great reviews. If you are still looking for a mirror and OLEFIN hasn't been mirrored near you, OLEFIN should be available.
