Enloe Invitational Tournament -- 12/10/2011

Post by msmathwhiz »

*This is the full announcement for the Enloe Invitational Quiz Tournament – 12/10/2011*

The Enloe Quiz Bowl teams are excited to announce that we will host the 1st Enloe Invitational Quiz Tournament on Saturday, December 10, 2011. This is a high school Quiz Bowl tournament that will take place from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The tournament is open to any high school team that wishes to attend.

Enloe Magnet High School is located approximately 3 miles east of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. Registration pick-up, opening meeting and matches will be conducted in the “Tower” on Enloe’s campus. There is ample on-campus parking for cars and buses.

AFFLIATION AND QUESTIONS: We will use NAQT Invitational Questions, specifically NAQT set #IS-111. The tournament will serve as an unofficial NAQT event, and the top 15% of the field will qualify for the NAQT High School National Championship. This tournament is affiliated with the PACE National Tournament, and has been certified as a Gold-level tournament for this inaugural year.

FORMAT: We desire to host a tournament with 32 teams. The teams will be divided into preliminary brackets, and then will be re-bracketed into playoff brackets. Each team will be guaranteed to play 10 games. In the event that fewer than 32 teams register, the format will change accordingly. All teams will be offered a minimum of 10 games in any format. Trophies will be awarded to the top teams, and book prizes will be awarded to the top eight individual scorers. Each match will consist of 2 un-timed halves, with each half consisting of 10 buzzer tossup questions. We will have powers and negs at this meet, but no bouncebacks on bonuses.

REGISTRATION: You may register by email or via the online registration system. If you register by email, please provide me with the number of teams, buzzers, and staffers you want to bring, and e-mail address where we may contact you. You may also register online at http://tinyurl.com/enloe2011tournament.
Following registration, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with information about rules, directions to Enloe, specifics about parking and a map of nearby restaurants for lunch. Again, registration fees may be mailed in advance for a discount (with the registration sheet) or paid at the tournament. Checks should be made out to “Enloe Magnet High School.” Registration will run until December 3rd.

FEE STRUCTURE:
Base fee: $65 per team. Schools will be limited to registration of two teams until November 23rd. After November 23rd up to two additional teams per school may be added to the registration.

Buzzer discount: $10 off school's total fee for each fully functional system (control box and eight activators all work)-maximum of two buzzer systems

Staff discount: $10 off school's total fee. This could be a coach, parent, student who is not playing, etc. Team-provided staffers will keep score for various games not involving the team with which they are affiliated. Volunteer staffers must stay through all the games (except finals) in order to receive credit for their school. You may have only one staffer count for your discount.

Early payment discount: $10 off school’s total fee. If you submit your payment before December 1st, we will take off $10 from your school’s fee.

Travel discount: $15 off school’s total fee for travelling over 150 miles (as determined by Google Maps).

METHOD OF PAYMENT: All teams must pay on or before the day of the tournament. We would prefer that you send in your payment before the tournament, but will also accept payment in person right before the tournament starts. Teams who do not pay on or before the day of the tournament will be charged a $25 penalty and will have two weeks to pay their total amount before we start mailing letters to your school administration about it. We can accept cash, checks from your school, school district, or Quiz Bowl club funds. We cannot accept personal checks.

HOTELS: If you are interested in a local hotel, please contact Celia Rowland ([email protected]).

TEAM & ROSTER SIZE: There may be a maximum of six players on one team's roster, up to four of whom may play at one time, with no exceptions. If you bring more than six players, you must register a second team to have all of them play. There is a halftime substitution opportunity in each game. Each player may appear on only one team's roster throughout the day-no switching from the B team to the A team, etc. Teams may also play shorthanded with only three players. Teams consisting of fewer than three players may not play without my express prior permission.

We look forward to your participation in our tournament!

Raleigh Charter will attend. It's been a long time since we've had a fall tournament we can just drive across town to.

Registration is still active and we're picking up a diverse field of schools. Would love to see more eastern NC schools as we're so convenient in terms of access.)

I will bring this up at our next meeting on Monday. We'll probably be sending at least one team.

Edit: We have a few band people in our club doing a parade or something in Carrboro and a lot of other people have plans, so we can't send a team, sorry.

Congratulations to Early College of Guilford A on winning the Enloe Invitational Tournament. Stats are now posted at
http://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/13 ... iac_final/. Please let me know if there are errors.

Top scorers were Frank McBride of Carrboro A, Peter Wu of Green Hope and Michael Zhang of Cave Springs A. A medal for the final placement of scorers will be sent to these players.

Many, many thanks to those coaches who lended a hand with moderating or scoring. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. We all have to cut our teeth in hosting a tournament at some time and I learned a lot of lessons with this one. (Shopping for a wedding dress with the daughter on Sunday was actually less stressful than running a tournament!) I know the players on the Enloe teams now have a greater appreciation for all that is done behind the scenes in running a tournament!
