LIST II is looking for mirrors!

Post by Mewto55555 »

The second iteration of the Ladue Invitational Spring Tournament is again looking for mirrors nationwide! It will be written by the Ladue team, and head-edited by Haohang Xu and myself (Max Schindler). We will offer 16 packets for the low price of $10 per team attending. The set will be available for mirroring by January 21st, 2012, and we're open to any mirrors after that for the duration of the school year (and into summer, I guess).

Details of last year can be found here and last year's set can be found here.

SET DETAILS:

We will be shooting for a very similar difficulty to last year, so the questions will be excellent for any team in attendance. Each round will consist of 24 tossups and bonuses, distributed as follows:

4 History
4 Literature
4 Science
2 Religion & Mythology
1 Math (Non-computational)
0.5 Philosophy (1 tossup or 1 bonus per round)
0.5 Social Science (1 tossup or 1 bonus per round)
1 Art
1 Music
1 Geography
1 Current Events
1 Trash (Pop Culture and Sports)
3 extra questions

If the thought of mirroring even crosses your mind, or you have any questions whatsoever, please feel free to email me at [email protected]

Max Schindler: LIST II Head Editor

Hooray! LIST II will be mirrored at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois on January 21, 2012!

For those of you wondering, that means the set will indeed be available to interested hosts by January 21st (but will not be done by January 14th or earlier), so feel free to bid accordingly! The original post has been modified accordingly.

Detroit Country Day (MI) will be hosting a mirror sometime in THE FUTURE.

Ardsley (NY) will be hosting a mirror as well, which, judging from this post, will be March 10th.

Ardsley's mirror is still tentative; I'll let you know by the end of next week.

The Ardsley mirror has been cancelled, so we're looking for a host in that area as well!

LIST will also be the set used by an after-school league run by Heritage High School in GA. We'd still love to have another tournament in the south that isn't located too close to Heritage!

How is this set coming along? Will there be power marks again?

There will be powermarks; they will be roughly as lenient as last year, if slightly less.

The set is coming along quite well; for purposes of us not having to do extra unnecessary work, is it objectionable to anyone for us to cut down to 22/22 (i.e. only 1 of those extra questions per round instead of 3)? I'm emailing this out to all our early mirrors to ask, but I thought asking here would be useful as well.

If we do cut down to 22/22, then the tournament is almost entirely written (we have less than half a packet of questions left to write), and at the present rate of compiling + play-testing one or more fully edited/powermarked packets a night we will easily be finished by midway through the week before the tournament.

So what distribution will these extra questions follow? Are they intended to be tiebreaker questions?

Roughly the same as the original distribution (but no trash). Presumably they will be used as necessary (so as a replacement if needed, or a tiebreaker, or whatever the circumstances dictate).

There will be a mirror at Westview in southern California sometime in late April/early May. We're still looking for mirrors all over (northern California? Texas? any other regions of the country?) to hear this so far very well-received set!

EDIT: Sunday, April 22nd.

So the last scheduled tournament on LIST II just happened -- if no one emails me wanting a mirror in the next week or so, I'll get the set posted online!

Is this still going to happen or is someone using the set?

Yeah, it's clear now; if you want it before it gets uploaded to quizbowlpackets, just shoot me an email. Comments on the set either in this thread or sent to me would be much appreciated.

Hopefully everyone who experienced the set enjoyed it and will mirror/play LIST III!

Is it actually going to get uploaded? The site is hardly updated anymore.
