CC Prediction Thread 2012-2013
Predicting the Community College season is about as difficult as handicapping a $5000 maiden claimer at Hoosier Park, but we will give it a go. Feel free to add your own crystal ball to the mix. And for those degenerate gamblers out there - take a look at the 8 in the 8th tomorrow night at Hoosier - Seminole Lady - for my friends down in Florida.
1. Valencia. As much as it pains me to write this, with at least 3 solid returning players, this is the team to beat come spring. The only negative holding back this team is their coach, who has recently turned into the Tony Romo of quizbowl, not able to win the big one. I know he has several championship rings decades ago, but has his time passed him by? Probably, but we think that even Joker Phillips could coach this team to a National Championship. (current odds: 2-1)
2. Chipola. At the opposite end of the spectrum from Borglum is Stan Young, a model of consistency in the quizbowl coaching ranks, and back-to-back championships. Is a 3-peat forthcoming? Rumors have been swirling about the possible loss of Paulie K, but even without the top scorer from ICT last year, expect Chipola to somehow find a way back into the mix. (current odds: 4-1 w/o Kelson, 1-9 w/Kelson)
3. Jefferson. This team is quietly turning into a Dynasty of the Midwest, plain and simple. Coming off a disappointing 5th place finish at the 2012 CCCT, with 2 of their top 3 scorers back (including Scott Z), Jefferson should be in the hunt for a national title. Led by their phenomenal coach, the Bill Belichick of quizbowl, it seems this team is “on a mission.” Other than grabbing a replacement official at last year’s CCCT (I just wanted an explanation for the end of the Jefferson-Valencia fiasco), this coach has an impeccable record. It is also rumored that Jefferson has hired an assistant coach, and is practicing this year. “Practice? You wanna talk about practice?” (current odds: 4-1)
4. Faulkner State. Roll Tide. Like their big brother at Alabama, this team just reloads, and we expect this team to be back again this year. With their large budget, and high-class travel itineraries, this team is not just all flash, as their innate ability to find the answer during matches is uncanny. I’d just like to know how he finds all those players who drive Cadillac escalades. My players (the few who even own cars) all have Neons. (current odds: 8-1)
5. Field. With the departure of the Staley boy at Lincoln Land, this spot is wide open. Will it be Rend Lake? Or Beville? Or another team out of Florida? Or maybe the Kansas or Oklahoma regional has a powerhouse lurking? Or maybe the Northeast or West gets involved this year? (current odds: 10-1)
Should be a fun year.

Re: CC Prediction Thread 2012-2013
I'm sure this post will be of great interest to at least six people on this board, possibly even eight! But sure, whatever.
Rumor has it that Chipola will be utilizing as one moderator at its IFT mirror this weekend about 125 ppg that won't be unleashed on the rest of us till Delta Burke. The only real excitement at CCCT may be whether my Black ('B') team can once again do to the "Dynasty of the Midwest" what SEC football teams routinely do to "Dynasties of the Midwest," as they did last year. The Red team? Well, they may beat out the 2011 Chipola B team (aka Paul Kelson) as the best runner-up in CCCT history, I'm afraid. But we'll give it a go.

Whether it is 8 people or 800 people, we don’t pander to the masses, we just speak the truth. And the truth is that we have a payback coming for your team this spring. With a little luck, and some crafty paper-work by our records office, I just may assemble the best team in the history of CC quizbowl come January. There will be no shenanigans like our match last year either. I have contacted the league office, and, rest assured, your strategy of “just yell out different answers on a bonus until the moderator hears the right one and accepts it” will not fly this year. My fine of 50,000 questions to NAQT was well worth the grab of the replacement official last spring. And we welcome Paulie K back to the scene. A championship consisting of trouncing all Valencia teams just wouldn’t seem complete without a victory over the reigning title holder. You may want to consider renaming your teams “black” and “blue” after the beatdown coming your way. Our College President (whose broken ankle from the melee at CCCT last year has finally healed) also sends his best to you and your team.

He has quite possibly the best tandem of community college players no one knows a damn thing about.Ukonvasara wrote:I think the metaphor has gotten away from you a bit here.prodski wrote:Whether it is 8 people or 800 people, we don’t pander to the masses, we just speak the truth.
